Faris's Letter of Recommendation
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Seria Kirmin |
Briefing | Seria: "Thanks to you, Silver Crown is safe now, and all the villagers are happy."
<Player>: "I'm glad. That means it's time for me to leave." Seria: "You're going on an adventure? Do you mind if I tag along? You saved me, so I'd like to repay you." <Player>: "Hm... Sure, why not? A companion makes traveling more enjoyable." Seria: "Really? Thank you! Oh, right. Thelma feels better now, so she and Faris have decided to head back to their hometown. Why don't you go see them one last time? They went to say goodbye to Vetala." |
Objectives | Go to Blue Guardian Vetala. |
Upon Completion | Vetala: "Oh, Adventurer. You also came."
Faris: "Hey, good timing! I was going to look for you before I left. Take this. It's a pass to the Sewer, where we came from. The guards won't let you in without it. I know it's not a proper thank-you gift, but that's the best I can do, given the situation. Feel free to come by anytime, though there's not much to see. Hah hah!" Thelma: "Thank you for saving me. Come see us." Morgan: "...They left. I told them Thelma needed more rest... Sigh." Vetala: "They visited several places to investigate the Black Nightmare for the safety of their people in the Sewer. I understand they can't wait any longer to go back to their people. It's because of people like them that Arad has hope for a better future." |

Level | 17 |

Quest Giver | Blue Guardian Vetala |
Briefing | Vetala: "Adventurer, you're leaving too. Thank you for helping Silver Crown while you were here. Oh, is Seria going with you? I'll pray for your safe travel together. Now, where are you going?"
<Player>: "I don't have a specific destination in mind. I just want to go somewhere I can meet many people and learn new things. Do you have any recommendations?" Vetala: "Then you should go to Underfoot. The capital city of the Dark Elven kingdom, Underfoot has been opened to the outside world, thanks to its generous queen, and has emerged as a hub for global commerce and tourism. There, you can find any information you want." |

The Imperial Knights
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Hartz von Krueger |
Briefing | Hartz: "Here we have yet another recruit. Hey, kid. Here's what you're going to do."
Lenny: "Anything you want, Deputy Master! This is the Imperial Knights base. Unauthorized personnel cannot enter!" <Player>: "Faris gave me this pass. She said I could use it to get in." Lenny: "You're crazy if you think a piece of paper that some woman gave you would get you into a territory of the Empire. I'll never let in anyone looking as suspicious as you!" <Player>: "But Faris knows me. Just bring her here. She'll tell you the same thing." Lenny: "*Snort* You call for her. But You'll have to do it from the outside." <Player>: "(Damn it, he's not going to let me in.)" Albert: "Mm? Hey, what took you so long? How have you been? Hey, Sir Knight, he used to live here. Let him in." Lenny: "Hm... Well, come in, then." |
Objectives | Enter the Sewer and meet Faris. |
Upon Completion | Faris: "I wondered what the fuss was about, and it was you. Did Albert help you get in?"
Albert: "You're lucky I heard about you before. Oh, right--he's not from the Empire, is he? I charge those from the Empire premiums to stay in my house." Faris: "Yeah, yeah. Anyway, welcome. Although I invited you, I didn't think you'd come to this cesspool of your own accord. You really are peculiar." |

Wounds by the Great Metastasis
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Faris, the Sewer Princess |
Dungeon | Mushroom Garden |
Briefing | Faris: "This place is overrun with the Black Nightmare and mutant monsters now, but it used to be a big city. And it was filled with more noise than Underfoot ever was. This is only the underground part, and it's used as a shelter for survivors like me. If you don't believe me, then there's a crack you can use to go above the ground. Go see how big our city actually is. There are some freaks up there, but you can deal with them." |
Objectives | Look around the Mushroom Garden.
|
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon entering the Dungeon:
<Player>: "This is the aftermath of the Great Metastasis. How terrible!" Upon entering the Boss Room: Grubeck: "Ugh... Ugh... Someone please help this poor goblin!" |
Upon Completion | Grubeck: "Aww, I ache all over... Thank you, adventurer, for saving me from becoming mincemeat." |

Rescue Grubeck's Friend
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Grubeck Goblinde |
Dungeon | Mushroom Garden |
Briefing | Grubeck: "I'm glad to be alive, but... Oh, please listen to this poor Goblin. I lost my kind and I have only one friend, and he's gone insane! He went in there by himself and hasn't come back out. And no one would help me! I even asked people from the Empire for help, but all they said was he was not their responsibility. Oh, poor me! Oh, my poor friend!"
Faris: "Grubeck has been saying that for a while, but everyone who went in to help his friend came back out wounded, and none of them saw his Goblin friend." Grubeck: "He's hiding because he's scared! Argh, why don't you Humans believe us Goblins?! Oh, are you going in? Thank you so much! I'll repay you handsomely!" |
Objectives | Rescue Grubeck's friend McGee.
|
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon entering the Boss Room:
<Player>: "That Goblin must be Grubeck's friend. He's in danger. I'd better save him!" Upon defeating the Boss: <Player>: "...Oh, no... He's dead. This is terrible. He was killed by the Fungra spores. I should at least bring his body to Grubeck. Mm? Someone else is here. Fungras? I'd better go back before they start attacking me." |
Upon Completion | Grubeck: "Adventurer, welco--McGee?! Geez, you idiot? What happened to you?! Please take him to the Moonlight Tavern! Its owner is an Elf, and she knows what to use to save him!"
Albert: "I think it's too late." Grubeck: "No... Now I'm the only Goblin left in the world... No-!" |

Vengeful Goblin
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Grubeck Goblinde |
Dungeon | Mushroom Garden |
Briefing | Grubeck: "Adventurer, do me a favor. I chose to live among Humans because I was bullied by my own kind for being too smart, and I always harbored feelings of anger, bitterness, and resentment toward my kind. But when my kind was wiped out by the Great Metastasis, I felt lonelier than ever. McGee was the only one who kept me going, but now he's gone because those Fungra killed him! I want to avenge his death, but I'm just a decrepit old Goblin. Adventurer, could you be so kind to make the Fungras pay for what they did to me and McGee? I'll repay you generously!" |
Objectives | Clear the Mushroom Garden.

Mushroom Slavers of Giant Ants
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Albert Bernstein |
Dungeon | Salif, City of Spores |
Briefing | Albert: "How did you like to look around the ruined Hendon Myre? It's hard to believe that the place once housed hundreds of thousands of people, isn't it? Now, as you've seen, it's overrun with monsters, some of them talking ants and walking mushrooms. Can you imagine it? You can't, can you? All right, I can show them to you. Go down to the right from the Mushroom Garden, and you'll arrive at Salif, the City of Spores. There, you can see the talking ants, Namuluns. Oh, while you're at it, could you save some poor Karus from them? The Karus are good mushrooms, so don't give them a hard time. Just drive away their Namulun watchers, and the Karus will escape on their own." |
Objectives | In Salif, City of Spores, defeat 8 Namulun Fighters and rescue the slave Fungras, Karus.
|
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon entering Room A2:
Namulun Fighter: "Stop dawdling and move!" Slave Fungra: "*Gasp* Please don't hurt me...!" |
Upon Completion | Albert: "Don't you think it's funny that ants enslave mushrooms? That's the Sewer for you." |

The Empire's Interference
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Albert Bernstein |
Briefing | Albert: "What do you think about the Namuluns? Didn't you notice something strange about them?"
<Player>: "Oh, wait..." Albert: "You did, didn't you? I think they started abducting people and enslaving mushrooms to build their own kingdom because of the Black Nightmare. What the Spirits of Silver Crown did in the fit of insanity is nothing compared to what these ants are doing to use. They're even invading people's villages. There's only so much our militiamen can do, so we've been relying on the Imperial Army. But those guys are only good for making a big show of themselves!" Lenny: "Hey, Adventurer!" Albert: "Oops, I hope she didn't hear me." Lenny: "We know you've been frequenting Meltdown. That place falls under our jurisdiction, and unauthorized personnel are not allowed in there. If we catch you sneaking into that place once again, we'll throw you in jail. Got it?" <Player>: "They're very high-handed. The villagers must not be happy with them. ...Mm? (Grubeck is calling me quietly from a corner. I should go to him.)" |
Objectives | Go to Grubeck. |
Upon Completion | Grubeck: "Thank you for coming. I see you're having issues with those jerks from the Empire. I may be too old to fight with you, but I can at least provide you with some good information. Have you heard about the Resistance? It's a group of people who have been wronged by the Empire, and they help anyone who wants to fight the Empire. The Resistance is difficult to meet, given its nature, but I thought it could be helpful for your journey." |

Attack of Mutant Creatures
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Faris, the Sewer Princess |
Dungeon | Salif, City of Spores |
Briefing | Gale: "...Then what are we going to do?" Faris: "Damn it... All right, for now, just take care of those who are injured. Hey, you came. Ah, nothing. Our guys went to save some Karus, only to get their asses beaten. Damn it! All the talented guys were killed early on, and we're left with young kids who don't know what they're doing. What? Sure, I'll appreciated it if you can help. But be careful. The monsters in this place are not as cute as the Spirits in Silver Crown." |
Objectives | Break 10 Giant Ant Eggs.
|
Upon Completion | Faris: "Thank you. Because of your help, our guys can stay in bed and recover from their wounds. Oh, while you were gone, that woman from the Empire was being pesky again, so I made up some lies. If she asks, just say you weren't in Meltdown." |

Destroy the Formicaries
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Faris, the Sewer Princess |
Dungeon | Salif, City of Spores |
Briefing | Faris: "How did Salif become a city filled with spores? Because spores are favorite food for ants. Ants running slave plantations. Ridiculous, don't you think? The ants even named themselves Namuluns, which supposedly means conquerers. My ass. There are more of them than you can see from the outside, and those living under the ground would come out when their kin on the ground is in danger, as if they have sensed it. If you go to Salif, make sure to destroy their formicaries first. That'll keep them distracted and keep you from being surrounded by them." |
Objectives | Destroy formicaries in Salif, City of Spores.
|
Upon Completion | Faris: "There's no end to them, isn't there? Those ants continue to increase their population, feeding on mushrooms that their slaves grow, and come to Human villages to abduct the people. Are the people enslaved, too? No, they're eaten. Presumably Human meat is more nutritious than mushrooms. That's why we keep fighting, to survive. We can always leave, but people outside the Sewer treat us like the scum of the earth. Hmpf, I used to be a backstreet thug, and now I'm a protector of a village. So much for my days of not caring." |

Queen Namulun Merina
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Faris, the Sewer Princess |
Dungeon | Salif, City of Spores |
Briefing | <Player>: "Why isn't the Imperial Army doing anything to protect the villagers?" Faris: "Because it's only here to save face. And if we, with any luck, drive away the monsters, it'll claim the Sewer at its new beat. It's really messed up. Things are better now than before, though. That new meathead named Hartz is at least trying to help us. He makes sure his beat is secure. Well, let's not talk about the Empire anymore. I've received an urgent report about the queen ant showing up in Salif to lay eggs. She's trying to make up for the soldiers she lost. This is a great opportunity to stop the ants from breeding. Go kill that wench." |
Objectives | Go to Salif, City of Spores, and defeat Queen Namulun Merina.
|
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon encountering Queen Namulun Merina:
Queen Namulun Merina: "Is that you who's killing my children and getting in our way of building a kingdom? You murderer! I'll tear you into pieces and feed you to my children! My children shall be the owners of this land!" Upon defeating Queen Namulun Merina: Queen Namulun Merina: "...We were trampled underfoot when we were small. I wanted revenge... but I ended up getting trampled too... The kingdom I saw in the deep, dark dreams... Was it only a dream...?" |
Upon Completion | Faris: "She said she didn't deserve to die. *Snort* What about the innocent people that she killed? She had only herself to blame!"
Breeze: "She and the other ants used to be scared of Humans, but the Black Nightmare has turned them into the violent creatures that they are now." Faris: "Yes. Where the hell did that goddamn cluster of nightmares come from?" |

Prevailing Black Nightmare
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Faris, the Sewer Princess |
Dungeon | Rotting Lot |
Briefing | <Player>: "The Black Nightmare is wreaking havoc all over the place... This land is all but filled with blood."
Faris: "Worse, the land is rotting." <Player>: "Rotting?" Faris: "A lot over there has turned black. It used to have the most fertile soil around this area, but since the spread of the Black Nightmare, everything in it--buildings, trees--has decayed into black masses." <Player>: "(The Black Nightmare. If I can't get away from it, then I'd better learn exactly what it is.) Where is the lot? I want to see it." Faris: "You're an oddball. There's nothing to see. There is not even a signboard to tell where you are. I don't know much about it. Ask someone else. Its old name was forgotten, and it's now just called the Rotting Lot." |
Objectives | Clear Rotting Lot.

Poison from the Rotting Lot
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Albert Bernstein |
Dungeon | Rotting Lot |
Briefing | Albert: "There used to be no living creatures, but recently some monsters that lost turf wars in other places have migrated here. They were dangerous before they arrived, and now they're out of control, releasing the poison that they've absorbed from the land through their pores. If you want to investigate that place, then you'd better prepare yourself for their poison. Go collect some poison from them. I can use my knowledge in alchemy to make something for you. I'm smarter than I look, believe it or not." |
Objectives | Collect poison from monsters in Rotting Lot and bring it to Albert. (Collect 15 Slimy Poisons from Poison Stingers, Madness Ants, and Black Moss.)

Attack of Black Moss
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Albert Bernstein |
Dungeon | Rotting Lot |
Briefing | Albert: "Now that we're prepared for the poison, it's time we conduct our investigation in earnest. But no matter how hard I think about it, something doesn't make sense. When did that place become full of scorpions? I knew Kingchella had migrated into the Rotting Lot, but he's not strong enough to bring the other monsters into submission... Oh,no... Hey, didn't you see a giant scorpion in there? Not just giant, but a humongous one. I'm thinking Black Moss might have sneaked in. Scorpions are not as fertile as the Namuluns, but they are twice as dangerous because of the venom they carry. Search the Rotting Lot and if you find Black Moss, get rid of it. It burrows itself in the ground, so watch your step. You can lure it out by hitting the ground with weighty metal or something." |
Objectives | Eliminate Black Moss in Rotting Lot and stop it from breeding.
|
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon encountering Black Moss:
<Player>: "This scorpion is huge! Judging by the pile of bones around this place, it preyed on more people than I can count." Upon defeating Black Moss: <Player>: "There are bones of little children, too. Did the Black Nightmare really create this monster?" |
Upon Completion | Albert: "It really was Black Moss. Whew, if it weren't for you..."
Breeze: "Albert...?" Albert: "WAH!" Breeze: " Black Moss was in the Rotting Lot? How could you not know that? That's your beat!" Albert: "But I have a hypersensitive nose. Think about it: a handsome guy like me can't walk around smelling like dead animals. It's a waste of a good man and of a national treasure--it's the end of the world!" <Player>: "...I thought he knew about it too well. Breeze, you have my approval for beating him." |

Caught by the Empire
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Albert Bernstein |
Briefing | Albert: "Hey, how have you been? About the samples you bought the last time, I had to send them to Underfoot because I didn't have the right equipment to test them. It'll take a while to get the results back, but you'll be the first one to know when I get them. Oh, I think the knight lady wants to talk to you."
Lenny: "Adventurer! Drop your weapon and raise your hands where I can see them! You ignored my warning and entered Meltdown, and someone saw you doing it. Do not resist your arresting officers! If you cooperate, you might serve less time in prison." <Player>: "You're going to lock me up? Hell, no! I don't care if this is your jurisdiction--I'm not your citizen and I don't have to follow your orders! Besides, I was there to stop monsters from killing people because you wouldn't do it! If you don't anyone to get in there, then do your goddamn job!" Lenny: "What? Did you just insult the Imperial Army? All right, draw your weapon! You think you're tough? I'll give you a reality check!" Hartz: "What's this commotion, Lenny Blainscoque?" Lenny: "Ah, Deputy Master! All right, Adventurer! Follow me. I'm a proud Imperial Knight, not a street brawler. We'll duke it out in front of my Deputy Master." Albert: "Uh oh. This is getting serious." |
Objectives | Go to Hartz von Krueger. |
Upon Completion | Hartz: "I wondered what the commotion was, and you were just blowing things out of proportion. You're disappointing."
Lenny: "*Whine* I-I'm sorry, sir!" <Player>: "(Faris said this man is better than the other Imperial Knights. He looks at least more sensible than the rest.)" Hartz: "That adventurer ignored your warning because you let yourself look weak. If you want others to listen to you, then beat them in a contest of strength." Lenny: "Yes, sir! I'll beat this adventurer for you!" <Player>: "(...Nope. He's no better than the others.)" |

Quest Giver | Hartz von Krueger |
Dungeon | Rotting Lot |
Briefing | Hartz: "*Snort* I don't have time to watch whelps roughhousing, but maybe it can be entertaining. Go ahead. No talk is necessary. You will fight each other and the loser will leave quietly." <Player>: "(...I have no choice but to beat Lenny and put her in her place.)" |
Objectives | Go to Rotting Lot and beat Imperial Knight Lenny. |
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon encountering Low-ranking Knight Lenny:
If Player is a Demonic Lancer: Lenny: "You should've run instead of agreeing to fight me. You're brave, I'll give you that, but that won't get you anywhere with me. I don't know where you've learned Imperial Spearmanship, but You're no match for my flawless Imperial Swordmanship!" If Player isn't a Demonic Lancer: Lenny: "You should've run instead of agreeing to fight me. You're brave, I'll give you that, but that won't get you anywhere with me. Your pathetic flailing of a sword cannot compete with my flawless execution of Imperial Swordsmanship!" Hartz: "Stop talking and get on with it!" Lenny: "Yes, sir!" |
Upon Completion | Hartz: "The fight is over."
Lenny: "Grr, this is unfair! You cheated!" Hartz: "Silence. You instigated this. Stop whining and take your loss like a good soldier!" Lenny: "I-I'm sorry, sir! I will, sir!" Hartz: "Hmpf, Adventurer. What's your name?" <Player>: "...<Player>." Hartz: "That's a funny name, but you're not bad. You're weak, but you're still stronger than her." Lenny: "...Hmpf! (Red-faced, Lenny hurriedly left the place.)" Hartz: "Mediocre fighters like you are a dime a dozen. Keep practicing. Who knows? Maybe one day you'll become decent." <Player>: "Then...?" Hartz: "You can go wherever the hell you want to go. Now get out of my sight." |

Vestiges of Former Glory
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Faris, the Sewer Princess |
Dungeon | Old Streets |
Briefing | Faris: "Did you really beat an Imperial Knight in a contest? Everyone's talking about it. Hmpf, you should've told me beforehand. I would never want to miss out on such a spectacle!" <br. <Player>: "Hah hah! Anyway, Faris, there's something I want to tell you. When I first came here, I just wanted to know more about the Black Nightmare simply for my own educational purposes, but I didn't know the situation it caused is so serious. Not only did it manipulate Amme into endangering Silver Crown, but its threat to this place is more serious and more widespread. I think we're not responding to the Black Nightmare quickly enough. We need to find out what's causing it." Faris: "I agree. I too want to know what's causing that thing, so I can crush it. It's really ticking me off! (Faris grits her teeth.) Speaking of which, why don't you do more investigating? Since the Empire approved of your coming and going wherever you go, you can go check out the Old Streets. The streets used to be filled with people, being in the heart of Hendon Myre, before they took the brunt of the Great Metastasis. You might be able to find many interesting things there." |
Objectives | Clear Old Streets.
|
Upon Completion | Faris: "Judging by the look on your face, you've figured out what the city is now. Yes, it's haunted by ghosts. The city where the rich flaunted their wealth in expensive clothes and the poor lived in the shadows of dirty back allies has become a ghost town." |

Earthbound Spirits
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Faris, the Sewer Princess |
Briefing | Faris: "Some female astrologer once told me the ghosts in that place are of people killed in the Great Metastasis, and even she couldn't make them cross over to the other side. When I was in Silver Crown, I asked about it to that Guardian girl, and she thought there are too many spirits for a single person to handle, not to mention that the effects of the Black Nightmare interfere with her efforts. Don't I know how to appease them in any other way? *Snort* Do I look like I know something like that? If you really want to know, go ask the woman at the Moonlight Tavern. That Elf has lived longer than any one of us, so she might know." |
Objectives | Ask Siusha at the Moonlight Tavern about how to appease ghosts. |
Upon Completion | Siusha: "Welcome. Would you like a drink?"
If player is an Elven Knight: Siusha: "..Oh, are you an Elf? I think you are! The pointy ears, the earthy fragrance of the forest! ...But you can't be. I thought there's no other Elves in Arad..." <player>: (Ah... What do I do?) "I've lived with Humans since I was young... It's complicated." Siusha: "..." <player>: (Uh oh. Does she know I'm lying?) Siusha: "I see. I'm glad you survived the Great Fire. I really am." <player>: (Ugh...I'm sorry...) |

How to Appease Angry Spirits
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Siusha |
Briefing | Siusha: "How to appease the angry spirits in the Old Streets.."
Seria: "Adventurer, are you here? I've heard you came back while I was away... Oh?" Siusha: "Oh, Seria! Long time, no see! What brings you here? Maybe I should go out more often. I could've missed you!" Seria: "Long time, no see. Siusha. This adventurer helped me when I was in Silver Crown, so I've decided to follow and help in any way I can." Siusha: "I see. I'm glad you've found someone to rely on. Yes, I think Seria can appease those spirits, but she'll have to use a different method depending on the condition of the spirits. |
Objectives | Tell Siusha about the condition of the spirits. |
Upon Completion | Seria: "What Siusha told me explains the echoes of grief I've been hearing. How tragic! Wait, adventurer, please give me a moment. (Seria's hands glow, and soon glowing grains of light are absorbed into my body.) *Pant Pant* Ah... what just happened? I just prayed for the poor spirits..."

Briefing | Faris: "Not all the people in the Old Streets were dead. Some of them survived and used to provide us with information about the place. Go find those survivors in the Old Streets. They know about the Black Nightmare better than we do."
Breeze: "Faris, there's a strange rumor going on that those survivors have been attacking the Imperial Army and us." Faris: "Really? Damn, we'd better check the rumor before the Imperial Army decides to take the matter into its hands. We'll look for the survivors. You should do the same. I hope the rumor is just a rumor. I don't want to give the Empire a chance to stab us in the back." |
Objectives | Look for survivors in the Old Streets, and eliminate those who are not in their sane minds.
|
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon encountering Survivor Chanel:
Survivor Chanel: "I'll avenge the deaths of the others!" <Player>: "Oh, no. He's not sane either." Upon encountering Atar Redric: <Player>: "Hey, is anyone there?" Atar Redric: "M-monster... I... kill you!" <Player>: "Hey, wait!" |

Quest Giver | Faris, the Sewer Princess |
Dungeon | Old Streets |
Briefing | Faris: "The leader of the survivors is Red Hand Busley, a talented Slayer who used to be helpful to us. I wanted you to check out the Old Streets because of him. And listening to you, I'm worried he might have lost his mind just like the others. Go look for him, and if he's gone insane, then look for his notebook. He might have left some clues in it." |
Objectives | Find Busley in Old Streets.
|
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon encountering Red Hand Busley:
Red Hand Busley: "...lia... Elia..." <Player>: "The Ghost Arm...?! But he's not a man!" |

A Torn Notebook
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Faris, the Sewer Princess |
Briefing | Faris: "When did you come, Lady Knight? Scram. You've got no business with us."
Hartz: "That's right, I have no business with you. But I want the notebook you found from the man named Busley. Adventurer, hand over the notebook." Faris: "Who do you think you are?!" Hartz: "Are you refusing to cooperate? I appreciate your bravery, but you'd better cooperate if you care about this village." |
Objectives | Hand over Busley's Notebook to Hartz. |
Upon Completion | Hartz: "... (Hartz leafs through the notebook, and then tears it into pieces, letting the torn paper be blown away in the wind.)"
<Player>: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Hartz: "I was hoping it'd be helpful, but it only wasted my time. Why is everyone from the Principality such incompetent fools? He sacrificed all his men for nothing. That notebook of his is completely void of useful information." <Player>: "What was written in it?" Hartz: "*Snort* Don't worry. You're not missing anything. (Hartz tells something to his men, and then leaves.)" Grubeck: "Tsk, tsk. The paper was old to begin with, and now it's completely illegible. But I've got an idea! Please come this way. Clues Left by Busley
Level | 17 |

Quest Giver | Faris, the Sewer Princess |
Briefing | Faris: "What?! He tore the notebook?! Argh! If all my guys weren't wounded, I would've gone and had it out with him! *Breathing Deeply* Ah, I'm getting soft. I'm glad you were able to restore a couple of pages at least. So what did you find out?" |
Objectives | Show Faris the restored pages. |
Upon Completion | Faris: "Is it a diary? These entries were written after the last time we saw him."
"...I've been under the weather since I came back from the place. My colleagues wanted to evacuate to the Sewer, but I'm afraid I might have caught some rare, possibly infectious, disease. I want to avoid contact with the others until I'm sure it's safe to do so. Something's wrong with Shenel's memory, and also with mine. I keep forgetting what I was doing just a moment ago..." This is the last entry: "This could be the last time I'm writing in my sane mind. I'm turning into a monster. What's happening to me? I'm scared. Elia... Please keep me safe..." "What does this mean? Did Busley catch some disease and turn into a monster? What did he mean by "the place?" Argh, it's frustrating without the middle pages! I don't know what happened to him, but the Old Streets are too dangerous for anyone, even you, to venture into. We might get the disease that destroyed Busley. Although we failed to find information we wanted, this is still as important a clue as the Black Nightmare. So, don't be disappointed." |

Village of Puppets
Level | 17 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Albert Bernstein |
Dungeon | Chessboard of Despair |
Briefing | Albert: "Here you are. I've got good news for you. A new area has been discovered beyond the Old Streets. The path to the place was blocked with wreckage, so no one thought there would be a village on the other side. But something's not right about the village. Our scout came back without finishing his patrol duty because of some bad vibe he got from that place. The village is close to the Old Streets, so there may be clues to the Black Nightmare. Why don't you check it out? I'll tell you the shortcut." |
Objectives | Clear Chessboard of Despair.

Dungeon Dialogue | Upon entering the Boss Room:
Illia: "Hello." If player isn't a Knight: <Player>: "Oh, hello." Illia: "You're one of those adventurers, aren't you? You travel from town to town, gathering information and meeting people, right? Do you by any chance know about a being called Carloso?" <Player>: "Who's that?" Illia: "...So this place is the same as other places. Only we know about Carloso. She was right. I'm sorry that I stopped you in the middle of the street. Goodbye." <Player>: "(What a strange person!)" If player is a Knight: <Player>: "Oh, hello. I didn't know you were here too." Illia: "It seems you've experienced many things since the last time we met. Did you make some progress?" <Player>: "No, not yet..." Illia: "I see. Don't rush yourself. We're on a quest to find someone whose existence is known only to us, and it's a tough journey. If you need help, you can ask Annis. She's pretty reliable. Please stay safe until we meet again." |

Briefing | Albert: "I've never heard of such a girl. Ah, by the way, I've got the results of the sample I sent to Underfoot. Those that were exposed to the effects of the Black Nightmare for a longer period showed signs of premature aging. I think Black Moss went to the Rotting Lot to expand its power quickly."
Loel: "Expand whose power? What power?" Albert: "Geez, you startled me! Stop talking from directly above my head and spitting at me! It took me hours to get this style just right!" Loel: "Were you talking about the Empire?" Albert: "No! Argh, I'm going to take a shower. You can keep him company." Loel: "What's wrong with him? Anyway, you, tell me about your fight with the Imperial Army." |
Objectives | Go talk to Attack Dog Loel. |
Upon Completion | Loel: "If you've dealt with those in the Imperial Army, then you know how arrogant they are. Would you believe me if there are people who want to knock the stuffing out of those jerks?"
<Player>: "(He's pretty straightforward.) Are those people from the Resistance?" Loel: "*Gasp* How did you know? Are you a telepath? No, no! I don't know anything about the Resistance! <Player>: "Hm, so the Empire is trying to minimize damage from the Black Nightmare? ...I guess not." Loel: "No. Everything the Empire does, it does for its own selfish needs. Always be wary of it and those from it. I've wanted to warn you of it." <Player>: "Why are you telling me this? What if I turn you in to the Imperial Knight over there?" Loel: "What? But you fought some Imperial Knight. I thought you hated the Empire." <Player>: "(Is he simple-minded or too trusting?) Well, at least I don't want to cooperate with the Empire." Loel: "Hah hah hah! I knew it! Then be careful not to leak any information to those from the Empire, all right?" <Player>: "(What does the Imperial Army want to do with the Black Nightmare? It's been said I was killed during the Great Metastasis, but I actually survived, thanks to Captain Luther. My colleagues have told me many great things about you. It's great to finally see you in person. Thank you for helping the people of Bel Myre."

Skardi: "We're willing to take that chance. We'd like to believe they would stick with us if they learn the true colors of the Empire." <Player>: "I see. Hm. Briefing | Skardi: "The Captain and I agree that the statues are controlled by powerful magic, different from the power of the Black Nightmare that has emerged in this area. The gem fragments you brought are a mere medium that transfers the magic. The actual user of the magic must be hiding somewhere nearby. Once I heard about an evil spell that possess stone statues with the spirits of the dead, so they could be used as guards. What you told me reminds me of that spell." |
Objectives | Defeat Queen Clara in Chessboard of Despair. (If you complete the quest, Hartz disappears from the Sewer.)

Dungeon Dialogue | Upon encountering Queen Clara:
Queen Clara: "Are you my prince? Or my servant? I don't care who you are--just dance with me! Dance, twirl, gyrate! Trample everyone else and crush their happiness! Fill my goblet with their blood! Love me. I'm here... Take me with you... I'm Clara... I'm a... doll... dancing... for you... I've been... waiting... alone... no one came... too dark..." |
Upon Completion | Skardi: "Who knew a puppet was controlling the stone statues?"
Luther: "I think the puppet was possessed by the spirit of a Great Metastasis victim, like the ones swarming this place. Adventurer, you said you didn't detect the energy of the Black Nightmare there, but its power affects any entities, corporeal or not. I believe the possessed puppet and its ability to control the statues were wicked gifts from the Black Nightmare." Skardi: "The spirit possessing the puppet must be one of the victims of the Great Metastasis. Why did that have to happen to Arad? To Bel Myre?" <Player>: "(Watching the woman, who refused to lose her dignity despite of her fugitive state, break down in front of me somehow makes me convinced that she really is a ruler of a state.)" Skardi: "...It's not the right time to be sad. The Great Metastasis is in the past, but the threats of the Black Nightmare and the Empire are our present reality. No one else should go through what the puppet queen did. Adventurer, please continue to investigate the Black Nightmare. We must stop more tragedies like this from happening." Luther: "I agree. Stop the Ants from Breeding

What? Quest Giver | Albert Bernstein |
Dungeon | Rotting Lot |
Briefing | Albert: "Now that we're ready for the poison, it's time we commence our investigation. Most monsters in Meltdown are affected by the Black Nightmare, but I think those in the Rotting Lot are the most noteworthy. I've never heard of any place whose soil is rotting because of the Black Nightmare. If the level of its concentration in the place is so high, then its effects must be pretty pervasive. It may be useful to compare monsters that were attacked by the Black Nightmare once to those that are under its continuous influence. So go get me some samples, will you? Why don't I do it myself? I'm so sensitive that I could die before I get there. Come on, don't fret. I'm here to help." |
Objectives | Collect Disgusting Green Mucuses from Pikaral Worms. |

Attack of Black Moss
Level | 17 |

Quest Giver | Albert Bernstein |
Dungeon | Rotting Lot |
Briefing | Albert: "But no matter how hard I think, something doesn't make sense.
|

Quest Giver | Empress Skardi |
Dungeon | Chessboard of Despair |
Briefing | Skardi: "I heard about some evil magic used to possess statues with the spirits of the dead, turning them into invincible guards. What you told me reminds me of the magic."
Luther: "I think the puppet is possessed by the spirit of a Great Metastasis victim, like those swarming this area. You said you didn't detect the energy of the Black Nightmare in there, but corporeal beings aren't the only ones susceptible to the phenomenon. It really might be the Black Nightmare animating that puppet and controlling the statues." Skardi: "This is not good. For now, the puppet is content with controlling the statues and playing queen, but she can decide to come out to this village for a different, but just as terrifying, type of play. Adventurer, please stop the puppet before that happens." |
|
Make them scream in a song of agony! Lock them up inside statues, punish them for excluding me from their circle of happiness!" Upon defeating Queen Clara: Queen Clara: "I don't care who you are. Love me. I'm here... Take me with you... I'm Clara... I'm a... doll... dancing... for you... I've been... waiting... alone... no one came... too dark..." |
Upon Completion | Skardi: "The spirit possessing the puppet must be one of the victims of the Great Metastasis. Why did that have to happen to Arad? To Bel Myre?"
<Player>: "(Watching the woman, who refused to lose her dignity despite of her fugitive state, break down in front of me somehow makes me convinced that she really is a ruler of a state.)" Skardi: "...It's not the right time to be sad. The Great Metastasis is in the past, but the threats of the Black Nightmare and the Empire are our present reality. No one else should go through what the puppet queen did. Adventurer, please continue to investigate the Black Nightmare. We must stop more tragedies from happening." Luther: "I agree. The Empire wants to use the power of the Black Nightmare to its advantage. We have to figure out the Black Nightmare before the Empire does. We'll conduct an investigation on our own. If you discover something, please share it with us." |
