Quests (Season II)
Back to Underfoot
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Skardi |
Briefing | Skardi: "Adventurer, I'm sorry it's such short notice, but please head back to Underfoot. Rumor has it the Dark Elves might close their city to the outside world because of their internal situation. Underfoot is the current heart of the Arad Continent, patronized by people at the top of their game. There, you have a better chance to find out about the Black nightmare than you do here. Most members of the Resistance, I for instance, are wanted by the Empire, and it's too risky for us to show up in busy places like Underfoot. But it's not for you. Of course, we'll share with you the information we gather from other sources."
<Player>: "Sure, I've been here long enough. I can go somewhere else more crowded for a change." Skardi: "There's a supporter of the Resistance in Underfoot. Tell him I sent you, and he'll be glad to help you. Please be careful. Underfoot is not safe from the scrutiny of the Empire." |
Objectives | Relay Skardi's message to Klonter. (If you perform this quest, Vaughn and Queen Maya disappear from Underfoot. You will also have to perform other quests linked to this quest and reactivate the NPCs, or you will not be able to perform certain quests.) |
Upon Completion | Klonter: "Hello. My name is Klonter. So, you have something to tell me?" |

Exploring the Spider Kingdom
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Klonter |
Dungeon | Spider Kingdom |
Briefing | Klonter: "I get it. You're curious as to why I'm helping the Resistance. All I want is the peace of Arad, and the Empire is too threatening to its neighboring states including ours. So I'm helping the Resistance to keep the Empire in check. You might not have heard this, since you just arrived, but peace envoys from the Empire are in town for the temporary peace treaty between the two states, and the security around the city is tighter than usual. I don't know much about the Black Nightmare, but if you want to look around the area, then you should start from the Castaway Cave. It's a restricted area, but you're a collaborator of the Resistance. I'll get a special permit for you. Good luck." |
Objectives | Search Spider Kingdom. (This quests cannot be completed if Viola dies.) |
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon entering the Dungeon:
Viola: "Are you the special adventurer from Sir Klonter? My name is Viola in the Black Rock Legion. I don't know how you got a special permit, but I'll keep an eye on you until I'm sure you're harmless. The ruins of the Spider Kingdom have long been under Underfoot's management, and there's nothing interesting for adventurers like you." Upon entering Room B1: Viola: "Since the fall of the Spider Kingdom, only a few spiders remain in the ruins. There are strange rumors about the place, but you can't believe everything you hear. Just look around once, so we can get back to Underfoot." Upon encountering Hunter Lotayla: Hunter Lotayla: "*Hiss* Halt, Dark Elf! This land belongs to us Spiders! Did you forget our treaty?!" Viola: "Don't listen to some delirious spider. Why is the Underground Garrison not doing anything about crazies like her?" Upon entering the Boss Room: Viola: "Wait, that's... No way..." Upon defeating the Boss: Viola: "...Adventurer, I have to go report to my superiors. Please don't go astray. Go straight back to Underfoot." |
Upon Completion | Klonter: "I'm sorry but you can go only as far as the Spider Kingdom. It's because of security reasons during the visit from the Empire. That place has long been under Underfoot's management. I wouldn't be surprised if there was nothing much to see. Huh? The solider who accompanied you reacted strangely?" |

Angelina's Proposition
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Spider Princess Angelina |
Briefing | If character isn't a thief: Spider Princess Angelina: "You're not a Dark Elf. You must be an adventurer. It's hard to believe the Dark Elves let other races in their territory. Hm, you look strong. I'm looking for able warriors like you. How about you help me, and I'll forgive you for intruding my kingdom? I also promise my eternal friendship to you. Adventurer from a different race, this is not a bad proposition for you. You should think it over." |
Objectives | Relay Angelina's proposition to Klonter. |
Dungeon Dialogue | Spider Princess Angelina: "My brother must be eliminated for the peace of the kingdom." Spider Princess Angelina: "Please don't look at me that way. I'm not ready to marry just yet." |
Upon Completion | Klonter: "No way...!" |

Briefing | Klonter: "After you headed out to the Spider Kingdom, that thought crossed my mind, but I dimissed it as a crazy idea. But now I'm thinking it wasn't too crazy an idea from the first place. You said you were in the west side of the Spider Kingdom. Could you check the east side? I need more proof, so I can report this to the Queen. Please go check if what I'm thinking is right." |

Dungeon | Spider Prince Nicholas: "She's still thinking about hiding underground." Spider Prince Nicholas: "Don't take too much interest in necromancy. If you really want to learn necromancy, then heed my warning: something terrible can happen to you if you go down that path." |
Briefing | If character is not a thief: Spider Prince Nicholas: "How dare you intrude my territory? Do you have a death wish? Hm, but I must admit that you're impressive, taking care of my soldiers so easily like that. All right, I'll let you live, and in return, you'll serve me. Since the passing of the great King Baboon, the Spider Kingdom has been thrown into chaos by a group of traitors. As the legitimate heir to the throne, I, Nicholas, am responsible for the stability of my kingdom. But my sister rebelled against me and she's gained quite a big following. I want you to be my weapon. Help me and get rid of Princess Angelina, and I'll forgive that you broke our treaty and trespassed my domain. You need time to prepare. Hm, I like your attitude. Just don't make me wait for too long." |
Objectives | Relay Nicholas's proposition to Klonter. |
Upon Completion | Klonter: "Ah, my guess was right. Nicholas and Angelina are the two siblings who drove their kingdom to ruin with their rivalry. But they died a long time ago, their existence should only be a record in history. This proves that the Spider Kingdom has been resurrected. I'd better let others know." |

Mages' Guild Master Sharan
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Klonter |
Briefing | Klonter: "It's not important why or how the Spider Kingdom is resurrected. We must contain the situation before the Empire takes notice of it, but because of that same reason I can't mobilize my army. This couldn't have happened at a worse time. That's why i need your help, Adventurer. I'll reward you with a free pass to Underfoot and to the Castaway Cave. It's a special privilege not allowed even to most native Dark Elves of Underfoot. What do you say? Thank you. Then please go to the Mages' Guild Master Sharan. She knows about the Spider Kingdom better than I do, so she'll be helpful to you." |
Objectives | Go to Mages' Guild Master Sharan." |
Upon Completion | Sharan: "Welcome. I'm Sharan, the master of the Mages' Guild, dean of the Magic Academy, and court mage. |

Different Choices, Different Outcome
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Sharan |
Briefing | Sharan: "History tells the Spider Kingdom declined after King Baboon died from disease, and the two royal siblings, Angelina and Nicholas, were so busy squabbling with each other that they let their country fall under the onslaught of the Dwarves. Based on what you just told me, I assume the Spider Kingdom is resurrected to a point of time that follows King Baboon's death. There must have been an external intervention in the kingdom's resurrection, but we don't have time to look into it right now. Now that both the siblings want you help, you can choose whoever you want to help eliminate the other. They're evenly matched in strength, so we'll respect you decision." |

Spider Princess Angelina: "So you're ready. You've made the right decision to help me." Upon encountering Spider Prince Nicholas: Spider Prince Nicholas: "Angelina, you came. Adventurer, it was foolish of you to have turned against me." Spider Princess Angelina: "No, he's made the right decision. Brother, things have changed. Father made the treaty with the Dark Elves because he wanted peaceful coexistence. We must continue to honor his wishes." Spider Prince Nicholas: "Your weak mind is your undoing. The only way we can thrive is by bringing other races into submission. Angelina, I'm sorry, but this kingdom doesn't need weak spiders like you." |

Father just passed away, and all you're thinking is taking his throne. You should be ashamed of yourself." Spider Prince Nicholas: "Are you talking about me, or you? I was the legitimate heir to his throne, until you convinced Father in his deathbed to change his will. You should kill yourself in front of his tomb for deceiving him like that. Father wanted his kingdom to be strong. He was forced into the treaty with the Dark Elves two hundred years ago, but he always wanted us to rule all of Arad. Unwanted Reunion
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Sharan |
Briefing | Sharan: "I've heard you addressed the situation. Good job. I've already issued you a free pass to Underfoot and to the Castaway Cave, so you can continue with your adventure without restriction. I'd better leave now." <player>: (I don't sense the energy of the Black Nightmare in the Spider Kingdom. A fallen kingdom was brought back... What is going on with this world? I feel uncomfortable, but for now, I should gather information about the Black Nightmare as I promised the Resistance.) |
Objectives | Walk around Underfoot until you find a familiar face. (If you perform this quest, Hartz appears in Underfoot.)
|
Upon Completion | Hartz: "Mm, you're..."
Low-ranking Knight Lenny: "Hey, you're that arrogant adventurer! What the hell are you doing in Underfoot?" (Lenny springs forward, yelling. Hartz quickly grabs her by the collar and throws her backward as if she weighs nothing.) |

Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Hartz von Krueger |
Briefing | Hartz: "How many times do I have to remind you that I don't want a mouthy underling? And how dare you step in front of me? Do you want to die?"
Low-ranking Knight Lenny: "I-I'm sorry, sir.." <player>: "Are you here to escort the peace envoys from the Empire?" Hartz: "Follow me." |
Objectives | Follow Hartz and meet the cheerful man. (If you perform this quest, Vaughn appears in Underfoot.)
|
Upon Completion | Vaughn Walshuted: "Heh, you're the spunky adventurer Deputy Master Krueger told me about."
If player is a Female Slayer: <player>: (Ah, I saw him with the Empire before!) <player>: "Vaughn Walshuted!" Vaughn Walshuted: "Err? Did my deputy tell you my name already? That's a first." Hartz: "I didn't. How did you know his name?" <player>: (Doesn't he remember me?) Vaughn Walshuted: "Hm, you must have taken notice of my Iron Wolf Knights uniform. You're quire shrewd, lady. Yes, I'm Vaughn Walshuted, master of the Iron Wolf Knights of the De Los Empire. You can call me Vaughn. I was bored out of my mind when I heard about you. The stories of you reminded me of my younger self. I was just as bold as you were. I'm envious of you for being able to be so carefree and adventurous. I wish I could just go off on a journey with Emily... She'll probably kill me, though. I wonder if the Emperor would consider it meritorious if I'm beaten to death by my on wife..." Hartz: "...No, he would consider it stupid." Vaughn Walshuted: "Maw hah hah! Did you hear that? He's such a no-nonsense man. Ah, I'm surrounded by the prying eyes of the Dark Elves, sitting around with my thumb up my butt, and my deputy can't laugh at my joke! Right now I miss my Emily more than anything!" <player>: (I can't do this. He's going to know that I want to kill him, and the odds of my winning against these two are slim.) "...Let me go." Vaughn Walshuted: "Sure. If you're bored, though, come back and tell me about your adventures." <player>: (Of course, he's too important to remember a test subject like me. It's better this way.) |

Klonter's Request
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Klonter |
Dungeon | Hero's Catacomb |
Briefing | Klonter: "Adventurer, you said you were investigating the Black Nightmare. Am I right? Haven't you found any traces of it in the Spider Kingdom?"
<player>: "Not at all. Why?" Klonter: "While looking into the Spider Kingdom case, we've learned that a similar event is taking place in a different area. none of us has firsthand experience with the Black Nightmare, so we need help. Adventurer, Morgan said you are very reliable. Could you help us investigate the event?" <player>: "Morgan? Do you know Morgan in Silver Crown?" Klonter: "Yes. He's a friend. In his recent letter to me, he wrote how you helped Silver Crown." <player>: "I see. I want to know everything about the Black Nightmare. I'll help you." Klonter: "Thank you so much. I'll repay you one day." |
Objectives | Investigate Hero's Catacomb. (This quests cannot be completed if Viola dies.) |
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon entering the Dungeon:
<Player>: "I knew someone was following me. It's you, again." Viola: "Why, is there a reason that I cannot come with you? I want to keep an eye on you in case you defile the tombs of our great ancestors." Upon entering Room C1: Viola: "Who are they? I've never seen them before. Why are they hostile to us? Are they under the spell of the Empire?" Upon entering the Boss Room: Viola: "Isn't that... Deviana?!" Deviana: "Our descendents... Our rest has been disturbed by an evil force... I'm losing my mind... Please... send us... back to..." Upon defeating the Boss: Viola: "This can't be happening. Deviana..." |
Upon Completion | Klonter: "The dead heroes have come back to life? How is that possible? The greatest seven heroes of us Dark Elves rest in peace in there. What kind of evil force has swept across the catacomb?"
Viola: "Deviana wants us to send them back to their graves first, and then find out the cause later." Klonter: "First the Spider Kingdom, and now this. Things are getting out of control. We must investigate." Viola: "The rest of our greatest heroes have been disturbed. What else do you want to know so much that you insist on an investigation? Underfoot doesn't have that kind of time. I'm leaving. I have to report to Saffron." Klonter: "No, wait!" |

Back to the Catacomb
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Klonter |
Dungeon | Hero's Catacomb |
Briefing | Klonter: "Ah, I was afraid this would happen. The Elders have decided to bury the catacomb case without reporting to the Queen. Those fools! They're trying to ignore the problem that won't go away on its own. This is different from the Spider Kingdom incident. The kingdom was above the ground, so anything that happens in that place is hard to miss, whereas the catacomb is an underground sanctum closed off to the public. That's why the Elders can get away with their negligence. Also, it doesn't help that everyone else's attention is on the Empire."
<player>: "I didn't sense the energy of the Black Nightmare in the catacomb, but I agree the situation is serious. I'll look further into this before the Elders decide to do anything else." Klonter: "Thank you." |
Objectives | Investigate Hero's Catacomb again.
|
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon encountering Fourth Hero: Dark Priestess Deviana:
<Player>: "Oh, no. They're completely out of their minds." Upon defeating the Boss: Bador: "Ghosts... Ah... I can't take this anymore..." |
Upon Completion | Klonter: "You're back. The guards of the Elders didn't come. Hows the inside? ...Ghosts? But I don't believe there's a ghost powerful enough to raise the dead heroes from their graves. Maybe he's misinformed. We should go ask help to Sharan. Please come with me... Mm? Why are there so many people over there?" |

Iris's Prophecy
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Iris |
Briefing | Iris: "Everyone, please listen to me. The dead are rising from their graves and underground buildings are surfacing because of beings called the Apostles. They're closing in on Arad. They will kill all of us and take over our lands. Everyone, we can't fight each other. Keep your eyes peeled and remain on guard." |
Objectives | Meet Fortuneteller Iris. |
Upon Completion | Iris: "Klonter. Did you come to seek my prophecy?"
Klonter: "What do you think you're doing? People from the Empire are everywhere, and you're speaking of an ominous prophecy out loud. Let's not forget that you also spoke of the strange phenomenon taking place in the Castaway Cave!" Iris: "You misunderstood. I didn't know until you told me that something is happening in the Castaway Cave. I just spoke of the oracle I've received. Look around you. No one thinks danger is lurking in the Castaway Cave. But now I'm worried that they might have heard what you said and spread it to others." |

The Apostles in Arad?
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Iris |
Dungeon | Hero's Catacomb |
Briefing | Iris: "By the way, may I ask who you are? You must be a really skilled adventurer, considering you're with Klonter. Are you by any chance the one who discovered the strange phenomenon in the Castaway Cave?"
<player>: "I'm sorry to cut you off, but you mentioned the Apostles. Are you saying they are responsible for the return of the dead?" Iris: "Yes. Not only did they raise the dead from their graves, but they also called forth the Black Nightmare to this land that is already devastated by the Great Metastasis. They will attack every living thing in Arad, make them suffer, and then invade in full force to fatten themselves. You don't look like you believe me. Then why don't you let me join your investigation? I'll prove to you that I'm not a scaremonger." |
Objectives | Collect Unknown Energies in Hero's Catacomb.
|
Upon Completion | Iris: "This is as I expected. This is called the Metastatic Energy, proof of the Apostles' invasion of Arad."
Klonter: "What do you mean this unfamiliar energy is proof of their invasion? Iris, you need to elaborate on that." Iris: "Sure, but... someone's waiting to see me right now." |

Quest Giver | Elder Saffron |
Briefing | Elder Saffron: "Iris, I've been told you're the source of some ominous rumors circulating in Underfoot. What are you doing? Don't you know envoys from the Empire are in town?"
Iris: "Welcome, Elder Saffron. As I told Klonter, oracles come to my mind like poems would to a poet's mind, and once they do, they wouldn't stop burning until I release them. I can't hide them or twist their meanings. But don't worry. The wind that vibrates the strings of my marrelete is just an ordeal, not true doom." Elder Saffron: "Tell me a prophecy about me. I cam here despite the protests from the other Elders who want to seal off the catacomb." |
Objectives | Go to Elder Saffron and continue the conversation. |
Upon Completion | Elder Saffron: "The Metastatic Energy. Do you mean the Great Metastasis that raised Underfoot above the ground?" Iris: "In a way, yes. The Great Metastasis is also an handiwork of the Apostles." |

The Power that Raised the Dead
Level | 27 |

Quest Giver | Iris |
Dungeon | Hero's Catacomb |
Briefing | Iris: "Do you know the Metastasis? It's a power that transports animals, plants, ghosts, and even Apostles to different dimensions, like this Arad. Only the most wicked and strongest entities like Apostles can exert such power. The Dark Elves that have appeared in the catacomb are the puppets of the Apostles, a part of their scheme to throw Arad into confusion."
<player>: "Are you saying the Apostles are responsible for the rising of the dead heroes?" Iris: "I can't say yes, just yet. I need to know more about the returned." Elder Saffron: "We have a man named Vaughn in town, and he's very cunning. We can't mobilize our army while he's in Underfoot. Adventurer, I want you to go check the catacomb. Seeing that you're an adventurer, it'll be an honor for you to see our greatest ancestors in person." Klonter: "Adventurer, I don't mean to impose on your kindness, but please help us. If the prophecy holds true, all of Arad is in danger." |

Back to Sleep
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Iris |
Dungeon | Hero's Catacomb |
Briefing | Iris: "Adventurer, during your adventure, haven't you sensed similar energy to this? Try to feel the dark, heavy energy settled at the bottom of the mana of the dead."
<player>: (Iris is right. I can feel something familiar from S'halla's mana cluster.) "It feels similar to the energy of the Black Nightmare!" Iris: "That's right. I'm familiar with it too because I encountered those enthralled by the Black Nightmare during my trips. You could have failed to take notice of its energy in the Castaway Cave because the place is still heavily under the influence of the Great Metastasis. I'll sing a song of rest for your weapon. You may not be able to avoid fighting the returned, but at least my song can make sure they will never return." |
Objectives | Put all the heroes in Hero's Catacomb back to eternal sleep.

Dungeon Dialogue | Upon defeating Seventh Hero: Demon Executioner Galion:

Upon defeating Fifth Hero: Herculean Wielder Jurcrass: Jurcrass: "Yurk is going back!" Upon defeating Fourth Hero: Dark Priestess Deviana: Deviana: "(Deviana silently nods, and then disappears.)" Upon defeating Third Hero: Steel Swordsman Bador: Bador: "I was lost in the dark, but I'm grateful that I was able to fight a worthy opponent..." Upon defeating Second Hero: Eastern Star S'halla: S'halla: "Oh... Ooohhh..." Upon encountering First Hero: Fairy Knight Lungel: Lungel: "...Venus... Do you still condemn me? Women can hold a grudge for eternity..." Upon defeating First Hero: Fairy Knight Lungel: Lungel: "My distant descendant, thank you for sending me beyond history. Farewell... I can no longer hear that wicked voice that woke me..." |
Upon Completion | Iris: "They were glad to go back to sleep. Their minds weren't completely consumed by the Black Nightmare."
Elder Saffron: "*Snort* They were named heroes for a reason. Especially Lungel, who was the greatest hero in the history of us Dark Elves. No way they would let some evil force push them around. They returned to protect their descendants from the evil influence of the Black Nightmare." Klonter: "Of course. I'm glad we contained the problem before it gets out of control. Adventurer. Iris. Klonter's Suspicion
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Klonter |
Briefing | Klonter: "I've been wondering: why didn't Elder Saffron stop this? That preseident of the Elders is proudful and distrusts strangers. He opposed the Queen's open policy more vehemently than anyone else. But this time, not only did he encourage you to enter the catacomb, but he stopped the other Elders who wanted to seal off the catacomb. I don't understand this about-face." |
Objectives | Go to Klonter and continue with the conversation. |
Upon Completion | Klonter: "I don't know what your impression is of the Elder, and you may not be old enough to understand this, but he's not to be underestimated. Maybe it's because of Iris's prophecy. Everyone tends to believe everything Iris says, but she's...I don't want to sound as if I doubt her prophecy. After all, it was she who saved Underfoot and the Dark Elves in the Castaway Cave" during the Great Metastasis. But this time... there's something about her prophecy that doesn't feel right."
<player>: "Klonter?" Klonter: "I'm sorry, I was just blabbering. I shouldn't have said that. I've just made you worried. Please don't mind me and continue with your adventure. Oh, and you don't have to be so polite to me. Anyone who's friends with Morgan is my friend. You've made such great contributions to Underfoot. I want to be on more friendly terms." |

Dungeon | Tyrant's Altar |
Briefing | Elder Saffron: "The Black Nightmare is wreaking havoc inside the Castaway Cave, and we're too short-handed to contain the problem internally. You need to help us. Inside the Castaway Cave, the Dwarves have built an altar that they call the Tyrant's Altar. Go check that place. I'll reward you accordingly."
<player>: "What's happening in there?" Jakarna: "*Snort* Why, are you scared? There's nothing the Dark Elves want from us that is not dangerous. If you're too scared, then you can go home, greenhorn." |

Stop the Resurrection of the Tyrant
Level | 27 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Elder Saffron |
Dungeon | Tyrant's Altar |
Briefing | Elder Saffron: "We sealed the altar after we took over this area, but it's recently been invaded by some Dwarves who have learned that their king Tanictar was awakened by some evil force. The Queen needs to focus on the conference with the Empire. I can't afford to distract her with an issue like this. We can take care of the Dwarves on our own."
<player>: "But the Dwarves are only trying to reclaim their land." Elder Saffron: "What the Dwarves are trying to do is dig through the Castaway Cave under the command of their king Tanictar, whose greed for gold got him cursed for eternity. There's a gold mine deep inside the cave, but it's all but sealed off, its tunnels blocked after Tanictar's death. If we let them, the Dwarves will get in there and mine gold, demolishing the cave that is already unstable, causing it to collapse on all of us. Do you understand now? We must stop the tyrant from resurrecting. First, go stop his followers. Show no mercy to those foolish Dwarves." |
Objectives | Defeat 20 Dwarf Warriors and 15 Dwarf Barbarians.

Upon Completion | Elder Saffron: "I cut down their number, but that doesn't seem to affect their mining speed." |

Objectives | Meet Minet. |
Upon Completion | Minet: "I've heard the Elder is sending you to the Tyrant's Altar. Did you know that an ancient Dwarf king was buried in there after he got cursed by Venus? You're healthy, so I'm not worried about you, but his anger permeating the area is so strong that many people who visited the place fell ill and died."
<player>: "No one told me that. I'd better not go." Minet: "But you need to continue to cooperate with the Elder. I don't know if you know this, but what you're doing affects not just Underfoot but all of Arad." |

What would that be?" |

Quest Giver | Elder Saffron |
Dungeon | Tyrant's Altar |
Briefing | Elder Saffron: "The Dwarves have reappeared at the Tyrant's Altar because they want to get to the Gold Tunnel. The path to the tunnel is so confusing that only Tyrant Tanictar could navigate it without being lost. He tore the only map into pieces and hid them in different places. I want you to go find the pieces of that map. The Dwarves will continue to pour in. For now, it's more important that we keep the map away from them." |
Objectives | Collect map pieces from Dwarves in Tyrant's Altar.
|
Upon Completion | Elder Saffron: "You came. Some of the map pieces you found are false, and we can tell which ones are real. Turn in your map pieces to me." <player>: (There are even fewer adventurers left now. Some of us look much paler than they did before.) |

Quest Giver | Klonter |
Briefing | Klonter: "Adventurer, you're safe! Are you feeling okay? I was looking for you because Sharan said you need some magical protection to avoid the curse of the altar."
<player>: "I'm fine. Someone made me a protection charm." Klonter: "Did he? I'm glad!" <player>: "Anyway, how did you investigation go?" Klonter: "I've found out about a few things. Please come this way." |
Objectives | Follow Klonter and continue with the conversation. |
Upon Completion | Klonter: "The Elders sent a large number of troops away from Underfoot. I don't know why they did it in times like this, but that left us no troops to send to investigate the Black Nightmare in the Castaway Cave. Because of that reason, the Elders wanted to seal off the cave and wait until the Imperial envoys left, but Elder Saffron insisted on the investigation and rallied adventurers. He saw the incidents at the catacomb and at the Tyrant's Altar as an opportunity to pick out skilled adventurers and make them do his bidding. Also, it was him who kept you from meeting the Queen and has controlled her surroundings. I'm suspicious of his reason to keep things secret from her. Adventurer, what are you going to do now? Things are getting more complicated around here. Underfoot is under lockdown, but if you want, I can help you leave."
<player>: "I'll continue to do what he asks. I have to investigate the Black Nightmare, anyway, so it's a win-win for everyone." Klonter: "I'll see. I'll keep in touch. Please stay safe." <player>: (Both the Empire and Saffron are investigating the Black Nightmare, but for what? I can't let them drag me into their fight. I'll have to stay informed about the Black Nightmare for my own survival.) |

Quest Giver | Annis |
Briefing | Annis: "Hello. It's a beautiful day today, isn't it? I know you've been busy. Are you taking a day off today? How are you doing with your investigation on the Black Nightmare."
<player>: "I think I've made some progress. At least now I know the Black Nightmare is causing a lot of damage." Annis: "I've done my own research on the Black Nightmare, and did you know about the catastrophe that took place in the Castaway Cave? I heard the ground caved in, snakes were born out of the arms of militiamen, food rotted, teeth yellowed..." <player>: (I thought we were careful, and still we couldn't stop the rumors. Does the Empire know about it too?) Annis: "...The dead rose from their graves, mushrooms grew on people's faces... Ugh... So terrible! A-and people say all these things happened all because of gold. Maybe the Black Nightmare is attracted to gold, but it opened the path to the forgotten Gold Tunnel. Canna said she would go in there herself as soon as the place is open to the public." <player>: (The path to the Gold Tunnel? Does that...?) "Oh, I'm sorry, but I just remembered something I have to do immediately. Let's talk later." |
Objectives | Go ask Saffron if the path to the Gold Tunnel has been opened. |
Upon Completion | Elder Saffron: "Mm..."
Vaughn Walshuted: "So let us help. The conference drags on, and my soldiers are so antsy that I can hardly control them. Err? What are you doing in here? Have you heard the rumors about the Gold Tunnel? So have I. Aren't you curious about the gold mine? Ah, Elder, don't worry. We in the Imperial Army are not interested in gold. We just want to help you eliminate the troublesome Dwarves, as a gesture of goodwill." Elder Saffron: "*Snort* No, thanks. You're here as our guests. I expect you to behave accordingly. Adventurer, go back. I don't know where you've heard about the Gold Tunnel, but I didn't call you. Leave." |

<player>: "...How do you know I've been in the Castaway Cave?" Vaughn Walshuted: "Ah, it was just a guess. So tell me how the place looks like." <player>: (He's playing me.) "No. I'm leaving." Vaughn Walshuted: "No? All right, I'll see you later, then. But I want to hear about it if you ever go to the Gold Tunnel." Low-ranking Knight Lenny: "Knight Master, that imbecile will be able to explore the Gold Tunnel. If he's smarter than he looks, then he'll run. If not, he'll come out of that place dead, or worse Devolved." Vaughn Walshuted: "You're wrong. It's that type of people who live longer than everyone else expects. Remember the swordswoman I told you about? She..." <player>: (...They're chattering like two friends. Now I feel foolish fro being wary of them... ...Hm, I thought the path was difficult to find. When was it opened? Maybe I should check the situation inside...) |
Objectives | Explore the Gold Tunnel.

Upon Completion | <player>: "Thank the gods, the guards didn't see me. I can't believe the Gold Tunnel is teeming with so many Dwarves. Did I only wast my time at the Tyrant's Altar?"
Seria Kirmin: "Adventurer!" <player>: "Wah! Geez, you startled me!" Seria Kirmin: "Sorry, Adventurer. I didn't mean to sneak up on you. I've been looking for you because you've got a letter. I was just so excited to find you." |

<player>: "It's prevalent in the Castaway Cave. The dead have risen from their graves and created chaos, giving the Dwarves an opportunity to sneak in to the cave. The Empire wants to investigate the authenticity of the rumors about the cave, bur Elder Saffron isn't letting it." Ludmilla: "I see. So it's true that the Black Nightmare can resurrect the dead. Just confirming the rumor is an accomplishment. Anyway, the content of this letter is pretty short. 'The Black Nightmare is leaking from Empyrean.'" |

<player>: "But the Black Nightmare was able to come down through the barrier." Ludmilla: "Right. It's possible whoever created the barrier only wanted to stop stuff from going up, not from coming down, or the Black Nightmare is strong enough to penetrate the barrier. Now, that's all for the message from the Resistance. I don't want to raise suspicions by talking to you for too long. Let's go our separate ways for now." <player>: (The Black Nightmare from Empyrean, and the path to Empyrean is blocked by a magical barrier. If I use the power of the Black Nightmare, can I reach Empyrean? I'd better find out.) |

Wait, I don't want your gold. I just need to ask you a question. How much do you know about the Black Nightmare." Widir: "The Black Nightmare? Hah hah! It's a gift from my ancestors!" <Player>: "What? You need to explain..." |
Upon Completion | Elder Saffron: "You sneaked in like a rat and let the Dwarf king run. You'll pay for this."
<Player>: "Wait! He ran while I was distracted by the guards!" Elder Saffron: "No excuses. It doesn't change the fact that you went in there against my warning." |

Elder Saffron: "Are you out of your mind? His previous meritorious service doesn't justify the crime he committed." Klonter: "Of course, <player> is in the wrong, but letting him rot in prison is a waste of a skilled adventurer. Why not make him do the best, for us?" Elder Saffron: "Hm... You have your point. All right, Adventurer. Enter the Gold Tunnel and drive all the Dwarves away. The more gold they steal, the more unstable the Castaway Cave becomes. Don't forget: you're a convict now.
