As time went by, the Elves became more distant due to struggles and wars with other races. After a great many years, the Elves eventually had lost majority of their homeland. They began to travel with a group of human refugees who fled from the war-torn eastern part of the Arad Continent. Together while roaming in the deserts of the west, they discovered the travelling magician, Great Mage Myre, in Arad Year 471. Using the last of his magic, Myre sacrificed himself to construct a new home for the refugees, creating oasis in the area. The Elves (or Fairies in foreign versions) were once one of the predominant races of the Arad Continent. Known for their long lifespan, pointy ears, fair skin, and knowledge for magic, the Elves were the protectors of the Great Pentacles left by the Great Mage Myre. After a long period of time, the Elves became deterred by their negative exchanges with other races. In turn, the Elves secluded themselves within Grand Flores, building a stronghold for themselves called Elvenguard to protect the forest from outsiders.

After the Great Blaze burned down Grand Flores, the Elves mysteriously disappeared. Only two of their kind are known to remain.

Lore

Excerpt (Great Metastasis):

A flawless tribe that once graced Arad with its existence. The Elves existed since the beginning of Arad. They possessed immense mana and vast knowledge, and were capable of complex magic spells. Their beautiful facial features, slender figures, translucent skin, and elongated ears with pointy tips have long been standards of beauty.
The Elves volunteered to keep the Arad Continent beautiful and taught the Humans myriad knowledge and magic. But some greedy Humans attacked their forests and set them ablaze in a frantic search for treasures.
The fire killed a great many Elves and turned the verdant forests into a desert that continued to spread.
The great mage Myre built great pentacles in the middle of the desert, and the surviving Elves gathered in Grand Flores and warded around the forest to keep Myre's pentacles safe.
When his pentacles were destroyed by the Great Fire, the Elves sacrificed themselves to restore the pentacles and disappeared from Arad forever.

~~Quote from Broad and Shallow Knowledge for Refined Aradians: Chapter 1

History

Long ago, the inhabitants of the original continent of Arad were predominantly Elves and Humans. As time went by, they became grieved with their home as it became too overpopulated and strife-filled to fulfill the needs of its growing masses. To solve this issue, a white hooded, wandering magician appeared who was proficient in a peculiar form of magic, nature manipulation. This individual was named the Great Mage Myre. With his magical prowess, he separated the original continent from the planet’s crust and much of its ocean and suspended it in the sky with a giant magical array (or pentacle), exposing a vast amount of land beneath. With the power of Myre’s Pentacle, it replicated the sunlight and seasonal patterns from above and exhibited them below, making life possible on the new continent.

From then on, the planet Arad was separated into two sections, the heavenly realm (known as Empyrean) and the Arad Continent, split by a body of water known as the Middle Ocean. With the ascension of Empyrean, a large gulf was created in the center of the continent.

Afterward, the races of Empyrean used magic to construct a building known as the Sky Tower to connect the two worlds, beginning the Great Exodus. Those who were brave enough and wished to leave ventured down through the tower and settled on the Arad Continent as their new home. Long afterward, the structure was used as a means of trade and communication between the two continents.

However, starting a new life was not as easy as it seemed. Despite the power of Myre’s Pentacle, the continent was still inhospitable and filled with desert. To this end, Myre aided the people by creating stone-structure based magical seals called Great Pentacles all over the land. These magical seals connected to Myre’s giant pentacle in the sky and used magic to artificially generate flora to their surroundings. From then on, the races gathered in these areas and created vast civilizations. The Elves, in particular, tasked themselves in protecting these structures because they knew if the pentacles were to be destroyed, the land would revert back to its original desert state, or potentially (in a worst case scenario) result in a destabilization in Myre's Pentacle and cause the Arad Continent to sink back within the depths of the ocean.

A Temporary Peace

Initially, upon the establishment of the Arad Continent, the races, mainly the Elves and the Humans, used to commingle with one another and lived in peace. However, this peace was short lived.

Time passed, conflicts escalated, and the races began to isolate themselves, occupying different parts of the continent. The Elven race, in particular, became heavily deterred by the Human races’ growing hostility and barbaric nature. In response, they began to relocate themselves into other areas, seemingly disappearing from the continent: some went into the forests to the west while others (later known as Dark Elves) went underground to the south. Along with their relocation, the Elves took with them their secrets of the magical arts. As generations passed, eventually most humans lost their connections and affinity to magic, resulting them to devolve into a feudal-like state.

Arad's Adventure Era

In Arad Year 1, the Apostle Bakal began his preparations for the races of Arad by closing off Sky Tower with an impassable magic pentacle, making traversal between Empyrean and the Arad Continent impossible. As insurance, he constructed an inner sanctum within the tower, known as Castle Nebulous, where he stationed his Dragonoid Army, led by Captain Petrilisk, and used his magic to create an immortal soldier named Light Castellan Sieghart to lead the Soldiers of Light and invade the Arad Continent.

Upon the arrival of the foreign threat, many of the races were unable to compete with Bakal's Expeller army, and in turn were wiped out. However, the Elves, with their prowess in magic, managed to stand their ground. After an extensive struggle and many losses, the Elves pushed back the Bakal's army back into the tower and sealed it off with an Elven Pentacle. The Pentacle cloaked the tower within an intangible mystical veil, and restricted any mutated creatures or monsters from passing through. Although normal individuals could go through it at any time, anyone who tried would succumb to losing a massive amount of mana. As a result, the tower was forgotten, and eventually became legend to most of the populace.

Touched by Myre's sacrifice, the Elves worked together with the humans to create a new peaceful settlement known as the Principality of Bel Myre in Arad Year 483. Following Myre's footsteps, they became the safe keepers of the Arad Continent, using their magic to protect Myre's Great Pentacles.

Many centuries later, in Arad Year 985, after the De Los Empire invaded Bel Myre, the Empire set Grand Flores ablaze in an event known as the Great Blaze. Due to the wildfire, a large number of the Elves perished. In addition to this, many of the Great Pentacles located within the forest were damaged or destroyed. Knowing that the destruction of the Pentacles would inevitably lead to the destabilization of Myre's Pentacle and end of the Arad Continent, the remaining Elves sacrificed themselves to rebuild the Pentacles and continue Myre's legacy.

After the Elves' disappearance, many of their magic spells and pentacles protecting the continent from foreign threats began to lose their effect. As a result, many consequences occurred: creatures within the forest became savage, the Sky Tower reappeared, and the phenomenon known as the Metastasis became more common and began to take its toll; mutating its surroundings and organisms. The energy of the Metastasis even revived the corpses of the Elves who perished within the great fire as Forest Zombies, forcing them to wander the forest for all eternity.
