Summary

Being granted administrative tools would help me continue editing and improving the DFO-World wiki as best as I possibly can. I am already very experienced with Mediawiki and was the sole administrator of the former Chinese DNF English wiki and know that I would be able to handle using these tools properly.

Experience and Abilities

As a SysOp

As of typing, I currently hold the following experience as a sysop:

  • Previous administrator of [Auxilium Gaming] for one year.
    • This included updating server modules (including patching the server from [heartbleed] immediately after openssl provided an update), managing the mail server and keeping tabs on server processes and cpu usage.
    • As well, I managed the forums in its entirety: installing spam filters, moderating our daily posts and the content portal (and providing content for it) on a regular basis.
  • Currently a moderator for Auxilium Gaming's [QQ Group for Chinese DNF] [(en)], room 247141086 (my personal QQ: 2977368121)
  • Currently a moderator for [DFOCore Forums].
  • Currently an operator for the #dfocore IRC channel ( channel: "#dfocore" on irc.synirc.net [web client] )

As a Wiki Editor

As of typing, I currently bring the following experiences and abilties as a wiki editor:

  • On the DFO-World wiki, as of writing I currently hold 906 edits (including this page creation)
    • Of those, 704 were in the last 30 days.
  • I hold conversational ability in Chinese, enough to be praised in QQ with native Chinese users, and well more than enough to translate Chinese DNF patches and game data.
    • Until DFO Beta, my data is all translated straight out of Chinese DNF.
    • Kunai is a good example of my Chinese translations.
    • I have also completed various translations that built up a [CDNF Quest Guide] among various patch notes.
  • As previously stated, I was the sole administrator of the former Chinese DNF English Wiki. Due to some extremely questionable actions towards the wiki and the community in general from the head of Auxilium, I chose to take the wiki offline and moved the pages over to DFO-World after setting up the wiki on my home server.
    • Due to the nature of the CDNF wiki following the structure of DFO-World, I am very familiar with the various plugins installed on the wiki at the moment, minus the ones that were very recently installed.

Role as an Admin

As an administrator I realize that my status does not put me "above" anyone else in the wiki, and that I am trusted with administrative tools in order to improve the wiki.

That said, I feel that on top of the edits I currently have - having administrative ability will help me in the following ways:

  • Vandalism Prevention: Protection, Deletion and Reversion (Rollback) are primarily used to remove vandalism on articles or take down spam articles. As we haven't had many vandals since anti-spam prevention was put into place quite a while ago (and hopefully it will stay like that going into DFOG beta), I am hoping to minimize use of these functions except in the case of...
  • Deletion: DFO as we know it is changing. Season 4 changed 54 levels worth of dungeons, reworked hundreds or even thousands of items and item icons and a lot of this is sitting on the wiki and not doing a lot. Just recently I had to bug User:Dfoplayer to wipe every cancel skill from the wiki, and Template:Deleteing them all down was extremely counter-productive. There's a lot more to do, and a lot more needs to be changed or deleted. I hope that having direct power to delete will help this process be more straight-forward, but at the same time I know to use it with caution given the circumstances of deletion.
  • Change Protected Pages and the Interface: In all honesty, our only protected page is the Main Page and that really doesn't need to be touched by anyone as it stands. Protecting new pages should only be done to protect from vandals. As for the interface, the only real change would be the Sidebar, which will need to be updated to fit new content in a month's time.

Extensions

ParserFunctions: Although not an admin tool, I love ParserFunctions. It's helped me make Navbars, collapse navbars into a single navbar, make informative headers and it made our absolutely wonderful MonsterData templates, which I am in the process of converting all our monsters to said template.

Mass Edit via Regular Expressions, Replace Text: In line with the changes I've said in Deletion, replace text is going to be extremely important once beta hits. New items that currently don't have a localized name and are left with Chinese or Korean text, or poor translations ( Anything that's been tagged with Template:DoNotTranslate, pretty much ) will need name replacements in all locations that they are mentioned. As well, Skill Names and other major names may need to be changed all across the wiki and access to Mass Editing will be absolutely imperative in this case.
