"자네가 검마인가? 이런 사막 한 가운데 다이무스라는 검마가 살고 있다고 하더니... 헛소문이 아니었어"

그 누구도 스스로 찾은 적 없는 이 메마른 대지를 울리는 묵직한 음성이 나를 긴장하게한다.
나는 방금 잡은 들쥐를 손질하는 것을 관두고 소리가 들리는 쪽으로 재빨리 뒤돌아 봤다.

"하핫! 눈빛이 살아있는 상대를 만난 것이 얼마만인가? 제법 즐거운 비무가 되겠어!"

운명이란 놈은 어떤 예고도 없이 찾아온다. 갑자기 나타난 이 비범한 사내로 부터 지금껏 없었던 강한 이끌림을 느낀다.

살갗을 뚫을 듯한 예기(銳氣)
온몸에 훈장처럼 새겨져 있는 검상과 흉터
훌륭하게 관리된 혈향을 내뿜는 두 자루의 보검
귀신이라 해도 믿을 만한 괴기한 생김새의 검사

바로 맹자(猛子) 중의 맹자, 피로 칼을 적시는 자... 정복자 카시야스가 눈앞에 서 있다.
이 얼마나 황송한 일인가? 최강의 검사가 나처럼 이름 없는 검사의 비루한 명성을 듣고 검을 섞고 싶어 이 먼길을 찾아오다니 말이다.

"지금 막 새로운 검술을 완성한 참이오. 그것을 자랑할 상대를 찾을 필요없게 됐으니 이 얼마나 기쁜 일이오"

허세 담긴 나의 말에서 약간의 떨림이 느껴진다. 심장이 터질 듯이 고동치고 있다. 그 때문에 온 몸의 피가 거꾸로 역류할 것 같다.
'싫지 않은 느낌... 꿈에서도 원하던 강자와의 만남에 의한 설레임 때문일 것이다...'
그렇게 나 자신을 위로하고 '마검 프놈'을 뽑아들었다.
프놈은 미묘하게 진동하고 있었으며 켈쿠스들도 동요하고 있는 것이 느껴졌다.

"호호~ 그것이 자네의 검인가? 재미있군... 살아있는 마검이라니 말일세. 초식을 예측하는 것이 쉽지 않겠군."

카시야스가 허리춤에 찬 두자루의 검을 뽑아 들었다.
압도될 것 같다.
두손에 검을 쥐었을 뿐인데 대기가 일그러지는 위압감이 느껴진다.
오늘 이자리에서 나는 목숨을 잃으리라.
카시야스의 얼굴에서 장난스러운 웃음이 사라진다. 진지한 눈빛으로 검을 다잡고는 나와의 거리를 서서히 좁혀온다.
나도 그에게 응수하기 위해 프놈을 바닥에 내려 꽂는다.
이 기술을 완성하기 위해 얼마만큼의 세월을 이 사막에서 보냈던가. 그에게 한 없이 뽐내리라...
오늘 이 한번의 대련으로 나의 검술은 완성될 것이다.[1]

"Are you Daimus? I've heard that a powerful demon named Daimus lives in the desert... I guess it was true"

A powerful voice from behind me makes me nervous. The voice was so deep that it felt like the Earth was trembling.
I immediately stop what I am doing and look back to where the voice is coming from.

"Haha, how long has it been since I've seen someone with such sharp eyes? This should be a lot of fun!"

Destiny comes without notice. I felt strongly attracted to this extraordinary man who suddenly appeared.
A penetrating stare,
Scars and wounds that cover his body like medal of honor,
Two sleek swords that wreak of blood,
And terrifying ghost-like appearance.
Ferocious of the Ferocious, Kasijas the Conqueror.
How grateful. One of the best swordsman - to come such a long way looking for
a nameless swordsman like me.

"I was just finishing up a new sword technique. And how great is it that
I don't have to search for a worthy opponent to show it off."

I can feel a slight tremble in my voice. My heart is pounding like it's about
to explode. It feels like my blood is flowing in reverse.

'This feeling... I don't hate it... This is probably due to the excitement from meeting
the opponent of my dreams...' I comforted myself with these words and unsheathed
the 'Phnom'. Phnom and Kelkus trembled with excitement.

"Oh, is that your sword? Interesting... I did not expect a living sword. It sure isn't going to be easy predicting its movement."

Kasijas pulled out the two swords from his waist.
I felt overwhelmed.
I can feel the air distorting around me, just from him putting the swords in his hands.
I shall die here, today.
The smirk on Kasijas' face disappeared. With a serious stare, he closed in.
I stuck my sword into the ground in response.
How long have I spent in the desert to master this skill... I shall show it all off... without regret.
This fight, today, shall complete my technique.[2]

Official Localization (DFU):

"Are you the Demonbane? So, it is not just a rumor that Daimus the Demon Swordmaster lives in the middle of this desert."
I stiffen at the rumbly voice that echoes through the wasteland that rarely gets visitors.
I quickly drop the field rat that I have just caught and turn towards it.

"Hah! I haven't met anyone with such lively eyes for a long time. This is going to be an exciting match!"
Destiny shows up before your eyes without warning. Suddenly, I feel drawn to this extraordinary person that has appeared out of nowhere.

His energy that is as sharp as a razor blade.
The sword scars and other marks of honor decorating his body.
The two swords releasing the coppery scent of blood from their beautifully managed blades.
And their grotesque-looking owner, enough to be mistaken for a fiend.

The strongest of the strong. The one whose swords always drip with blood. Kasijas the Conqueror. He's standing before me.
I feel so honored. I have made this great swordsmen come all the way to the desert, just for a match with me.

"I have just completed a new technique. Thank you for saving me the time to look for someone to test it on."

My voice trembles as I speak with bravado. My heart is beating so fast that I am worried it might explode. I feel giddy.

This is not a bad feeling. After all, this is the match that I have always dreamed of.

I inwardly convince myself as I draw my demonic sword, Phnom.
It was vibrating subtly, making the Kelkuses squirm in anticipation.

"Huh, is that your sword? Interesting. A living demonic sword. It'll be difficult to predict your moves."

Kasijas also draws the two swords that he's wearing at his waist.
I feel overwhelmed.
He only drew his weapons, and just that move alone has caused the air around him to warp and sizzle.
I will likely die today.
The mischievous smile on Kasijas's face has disappeared.
He adjusts his grips on his swords and starts closing the distance between us with a serious look in his eyes.
In response, I slam Phnom into the ground.
I do not know how long I have stayed in this desert to perfect this skill.
And today, I am going to present it to him.
Today's match is going to be my final test.[3]
