Apostle Luke in the Dark
Level | 86 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Meryl Pioneer |
Prerequisite | Member of the Joint Investigation Group
OR OR New Grim Seeker |
Briefing | Meryl: "You're back, Adventurer. I was worried you might have had a hard time taking care of that monster called Gold Crown. I guess I worried for nothing. *Chuckle* But let's not let our guard down just yet. This is just the beginning. We've assessed the structure of the castle inside and out, thanks to you, but there are hidden spaces that we haven't discovered yet. Luke has to be in one of them. We haven't seen hide nor hair of him. He could be in the deepest part of the castle, biding his time. I'm worried what he might have in store for us... I can't believe Jurgen-- Never mind. I was just talking to myself. By the way, why don't you go to that girl who's waiting for you? She's worried sick about you." |
Objectives | Talk to Seria. (To perform the next Epic quests, you must complete one of the following Featured quests: Member of the Joint Investigation Group, New Adventurer's Guildsman, New Grim Seeker.)
|
Upon Completion | Seria: "Adventurer, you're not hurt, are you? I was told you went to fight a formidable enemy. I'm so glad you came back safely. A while ago, Sir Vaughn talked to the Princess and left the island. I wonder if he returned to the Empire. But we haven't defeated Apostle Luke yet. Has something happened? ...Oh, I hear a commotion outside. Maybe another operation is about to be carried out, now that you've returned. You should go." |

Quest Giver | Nevillo Jurgen |
Briefing | Nevillo Jurgen: "Finally, it's time we bring down Luke. Adventurer. Everyone else. Thank you so much for risking your lives to fight for the peace of Empyrean one monster after another. I, Nevillo Jurgen, would like to thank you in the absence of the Princess and on behalf of the people of Empyrean."
Meryl: "Don't you think it's too early to thank us? We haven't even fought him yet." Azalea: "Everyone, it's true Luke is a big threat, but we shouldn't kill him. Killing him will only cause a bigger tragedy." Dana Donatel: "What are you trying to say? His Black Nightmare already cost numerous lives of both Arad and Empyrean. Why do you think we're here? We have only one opportunity to stop this evil Apostle." Isabella: "I agree. We'd better get rid of him while we can." Azalea: "...I knew it'd be difficult to persuade you, but I didn't expect you to be so close-minded. All right, then we'll have to go our separate ways." Roy: "...Huh? Does this mean we'll have to protect Luke now? For real? But why? What, kiddo? Do you have something to say? Glare daggers at me all you want--you can't scare me." Erica: "Ah, mister. You should've listened to me when I talked to you, instead of being so preoccupied with your research. Now, just shut up." |
Objectives | Go to your faction leader and see what they have to say.

Upon Completion | If Faction Leader is Imperial Princess Isabella:
If Faction Leader is Dana Donatel: Dana Donatel: "I took a strong stand in that meeting because I was ticked, but I have to admit that Apostle is not to be trifled with. It's best we get rid of him, but it won't be easy. Fortunately, we have you, Adventurer, and the Imperial empress. Once we join forces, we should be able to stop Luke. Then we can move on to Pandemonium. ...I really don't want to work with the Empire, but... Pandemonium! Just thinking about it makes my heart race." Meryl: "We need all the help we can get, but this belongs to Empyrean; we can't let the Imperial Army run around and do whatever they want. I didn't have time to tell you this earlier, but the Coast Guard has arrived at Zelva, with Hiram in the lead. I think Jurgen has called him. Adventurer, do you know about Hiram? Be careful, he's--" Hiram: "Hello, everyone." If Faction Leader is Azalea Lott: Azalea: "Maybe it's better this way. Instead of risking success by working with dubious allies, we should just have faith in each other and press on. Remember: our goal is to protect Luke, for the good of Arad and the rest of the world. His death is planned. Someone wants us to kill him and trigger the end of the world." Erica: "So is it going to be a full frontal war between us and them from now on?" Azalea: "I can't say. And Luke is behaving strangely. We should find him, wherever he is in the Castle of the Dead, and persuade him to stop threatening Arad and Empyrean." Hiram: "Persuade him? That sounds like a plan." |

Quest Giver | Hiram Klauf |
Dungeon | Sanctuary of Birth |
Briefing | If Faction Leader is Imperial Princess Isabella:
If Faction Leader is Dana Donatel: Hiram: "I came to introduce myself to the members of the Adventurer's Guild. I'm Hiram Klauf, captain of the Coast Guard. Ah, I'm seeing quite a few familiar faces." Meryl: "Aren't you busy? What are you doing here?" Hiram: "I made time to see you. I'm sorry, but let me cut to the chase. While you're here, I'll appreciate if you follow my instructions. I won't stop you from conducting investigations on your own, but everything you find out, I want to know. This place belongs to Empyrean, and it's under my jurisdiction. I don't have enough manpower to interfere with civilian groups' investigations, and Luke is posing a big threat to Empyrean. Your cooperation will be appreciated." Dana Donatel: "(Hm, he's being more polite than I thought. Meryl, you said we should be careful, but what he's asking isn't unreasonable.)" Meryl: "(Who knows? I just hope I'm wrong about him.)" Dana Donatel: "Sure, Captain Hiram. We're happy to cooperate." Hiram: "Thank you. Then let's talk about the matter at hand. I've heard Luke is hiding." Dana Donatel: "We've discovered a place guarded by giant guards. We're planning to check it out." Hiram: "You are? I see. We'll regroup in the meantime. Please don't go too deep." If Faction Leader is Azalea Lott: Hiram: "It'll be great if he can be persuaded, but if he was, don't you think he would've been by now? He's as dangerous as Anton, and we can't wait forever for him to change his mind. But you do have a point. If you know how to minimize the damage, then I'm willing to help." Roy: "...!" Azalea: "... You're Empyrean's..." Hiram: "Let me introduce myself. Hiram Klauf, captain of the Coast Guard. I believe this is the first time we've met each other in person, Miss Azalea. How about we do this? You know Luke better than we do. I'll let you stay on this island and support you as best as I can. If you fail to persuade Luke, however, I want you to tell me how to take care of him." Azalea: "Are you saying you've known about what we were doing all this time?" Hiram: "Let's not waste our time. You know the answer." Azalea: "...Luke is hiding deep inside the castle because he feels cornered. We have to stop him before he does something irreversible. We're not looking for him to get rid of him. We're looking for him to talk some sense into him. If you find him, promise me that you'll let us deal with him before you resort to force." Hiram: "I promise." Azalea: "Roy has finished scanning the castle. We don't have the complete map, but at least we've discovered a secret space where he might be hiding. I'll give you the map, so you can check the inside of the castle." Hiram: "Hey, Adventurer. Good to see you. Who knew we'd be working together again?" |
Objectives | Explore the Sanctuary of Birth. |
Upon Completion | If Faction Leader is Imperial Princess Isabella:
If Faction Leader is Dana Donatel: Dana Donatel: "You came back safely. You're reliable, as always." If Faction Leader is Azalea Lott: Azalea: "Thank you. There was a place like that. Luke probably used it to create his soldiers." |

Quest Giver | Dana Donatel |
Dungeon | Sanctuary of Birth |
Briefing | If Faction Leader is Imperial Princess Isabella:
If Faction Leader is Dana Donatel: Dana Donatel: "So you went to where Luke is creating his soldiers. Can we destroy it?" Meryl: "That factory is equipped with big, high-tech facilities. Destroying it might be too dangerous. Also, it could be just a setup. How about we ask Hiram to send us one of his men? We won't have to report to him every single detail, and he'll have an eye among us. I don't like it, but now is not the time to stand on pride." Dana Donatel: "All right, we'll do that. I'll ask him to send us one of his men. Adventurer, could you wait until a man comes from the Coast Guard and conduct an investigation with him?" If Faction Leader is Azalea Lott: |
Objectives | Explore the Sanctuary of Birth with Mue. |
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon entering the dungeon:
Mue: "Wow, I can't believe I'm actually inside the Castle of the Dead. I've only read about it, and this is incredible! Huh? Oh, you want me to lower my voice. Sorry! I get loud when I'm nervous... I got scolded every time, but I can't stop myself. I'll try to keep quiet. Please show me the way." Upon entering the boss room: Mue: "I think this is the control room. Let's take a look around." |

Quest Giver | Hiram Klauf |
Dungeon | Sanctuary of Destruction |
Briefing | Hiram: "Hm, a factory and a recycling plant... Haven't you found anything else? Like hidden bombs?"
Mue: "No. We'll need more men to search the castle more thoroughly. Most of the equipment I brought with me became unresponsive inside the castle." Hiram: "I see. But is that all? There has to be more than a factory. What's in the back?" Mue: "I was just done telling you, we need more men to search it more thoroughly. That place gives me the heebie-jeebies. I can't focus on analyzing signals!" Hiram: "...Sigh, Hulk, go with her." Mue: "I'll take Cohen!" Cohen: "What?!" Hiram: "I need Cohen for something else. Take Hulk, or that Imperial Knight over there." Cyrus: "...?" Mue: "...Major Hulk, please come with us. Adventurer, you're coming, right?" |
Objectives | Go to the Sanctuary of Destruction and look for a path leading to another place. |
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon entering the dungeon:
Mue: "Adventurer, you're so kind. On the other hand, Hulk here--" Hulk: "Do you think I wanted to come here with you? I would never go anywhere with you unless I had to. It's like a minefield wherever you go." Mue: "What? What about you? You--" Hulk: "No, we're not going there again. Stop talking. Ah, Adventurer, remember me? We've met a few times in Noblesky. Hah hah, I've always wanted to talk to you, but I didn't have a chance. Nice to meet you." Upon entering the boss room: Hulk: "What's this? Should we break it?" Mue: "No! You don't break things you don't know what they might do to you. Gosh, you're so stupid! ...Err? I've found a hidden path." |

Briefing | Mue: "What do you think this place is? It has a different atmosphere... Uh-oh, what if Luke is here?! But we're not ready to face him! Maybe we should just leave. Adventurer, please?"
Hulk: "Stop panicking. We came here to investigate, and we'll see through it. What's wrong with you? Well, there's always something wrong with you, but I've never seen you shaking so badly." Mue: "Can we please leave? I really have a bad feeling about this place." Hulk: "Gah, you're embarrassing me in front of this adventurer. Stop whining. You know I don't like wimps. Stay quiet, or I'll shoot you. ...What? Adventurer, you want to leave too? I can't believe this! Our orders are to investigate the back of this place, and we're doing it. Out of my way, or I'll shoot you too." Mue: "S-stop threatening the adventurer! Alright, alright, we'll follow you. But let's make it quick, okay?" |
Objectives | Check the Sanctuary of Dispersion.
|
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon entering the boss room:
Hulk: "What the...?! There's no way out! Mue, get your act together--you've made us lose our way in the middle of enemy territory!" Mue: "I-I've never been here before, and my equipment is not working properly here. W-we have no choice. We should leave." Hulk: "I'm tired of hearing you talk about leaving. Wait, did you lead us here, so we'd have no choice but to leave? Mue: "No, I didn't! S-stop yelling at me! Boohoo!" Hulk: "You're crying? A soldier crying in the middle of enemy territory. How pathetic! You're better off dead. What? Adventurer, you want to leave too? I thought we were over this! Argh, you're making me angry! Maybe I should kill both of you and be done with this crap!" Upon defeating the boss: Hulk: "Ugh..." Mue: "That was close. I can't believe he attacked us all of a sudden. That was cowardly of him. What do we do? He's too dangerous to be left alone. Maybe we should tie him to something solid. You want to get him out of here. But he's too dangerous to let live... All right, Adventurer, I'll do as you say." |

Briefing | If Faction Leader is Imperial Princess Isabella:
If Faction Leader is Dana Donatel: Hiram: "So you felt strange when you set foot into that new place. Are you sure you weren't just too stressed out at that time?" Hulk: "Yes, I'm sure. Ugh, I'm hurt all over... I got annoyed all of a sudden, and I couldn't control myself. I felt like I'd become someone else, and I didn't like it." Mue: "I got scared so much that I wanted to get out of there. I felt as if the walls and ceilings were caving in on us." Meryl: "This reminds me of the Black Nightmare that you told me about before, Adventurer." Dana Donatel: "I agree. Maybe Luke's power is combined with the Black Nightmare, influencing people's emotions. I don't know why it didn't affect you, though, Adventurer." Hiram: "That's what I want to know too. I don't think we should go deeper into the castle until we find some kind of safety device like we did to fight Anton. Adventurer, I'm sorry, but you're the only one who can do this. Please find out what the energy in that place does to the human body and how we can neutralize it." If Faction Leader is Azalea Lott: |

Briefing | Hiram: "Did you get some rest? The first analysis of the energy is complete. Doctor Meryl of the Seven Shards conducted it. In summary, the energy does have an effect on the mind, but the level of its effect varies depending on individuals. I don't know why it affects people differently, but that's not important right now. We have to find out why it doesn't affect you, or at least how the Black Nightmare has entered the castle. Help us, will you? |
Objectives | Reach the back of the Sanctuary of Dispersion. |

In them, my strong imposing body shrivels up as my breath gets shallow, and then I stop breathing altogether. I have a feeling that I'm being murdered by someone, but I have no idea who. Hilder's Story
Level | 86 |
---|---|
Quest Giver | Keening Hilder |
Dungeon | Sanctuary of Birth |
Briefing | Keening Hilder: "I came to tell you something. Adventurer, as you may have noticed, the way behind me is blocked by an energy that is akin to the Black Nightmare, but much worse. Luke has created it to seal the path that leads to him. I can sense Luke's Black Nightmare that is seeping around the doorframe is growing stronger. Now that he doesn't have to be secretive anymore, he's moving quickly, and with firm resolve. It's also that the time he's been waiting has come. He wants to recover his old self and confine the entire world in the shadow of the Black Nightmare. As the monarch of Heblon, he controls both light and darkness. As long as he exists, light can't be our redemption and darkness can't be our rest. Adventurer, you must break the seal and defeat Luke. Anton has nothing on Luke or his Black Nightmare. Arad, Empyrean, and every other world outside this realm will be trapped forever inside the Black Nightmare if he has his way."
If player is a Mage (F/M): Keening Hilder: "For all the faults it has, Pandemonium is still our home and we don't want it destroyed, now do we?" <Player>: "Luke has to be stopped. There's no question about it, but Hilder, you controlled Iris's mind and made her do unspeakable things. I can't let you do the same to me." If player is not a Mage (F/M): <Player>: "He has to be stopped. There's no question about it, but I'm suspicious as to why you've approached me. I got fooled by Iris once. I won't get fooled again." Keening Hilder: "Adventurer, I've helped you, and I've never tried to manipulate you. I could trick you if I really wanted, but it'd be more convenient for me. But I don't want to do that. I can't do that. I only want to stop the evil Apostle and help maintain the world's peace." <Player>: "If you need help, then why didn't you step in the first place?" Keening Hilder: "I'm not as strong as Bakal or Anton. If I stepped in, they would've gotten rid of me. We Apostles can't kill each other, but those who are associated with us can. That's why I hid. Iris was my agent for a long time, and she's found her freedom, thanks to your wisdom." <Player>: "So many people were killed while she was under your spell." Keening Hilder: "You don't like the way I handled things. I understand. It pained me, too. But there's only so much I can do. Even God can't save all his children, and I'm not a god. If I didn't intervene, more people could've died. If you want to avenge those who got killed in the crossfire, then get rid of the source of their tragedy. Stop it before more people fall victim to it." <Player>: "...I'll stop Luke, and I'll decide how I go about doing it. How can I break the seal?" Keening Hilder: "Go to Pandemonium. Luke has distributed some of the light energy that he has collected from other places there, for his followers. If you can concentrate the scattered energy of light, then you can at least weaken the seal. Adventurer, please follow me. I'll guide you to Pandemonium." |
Objectives | Follow Hilder. |
Dungeon Dialogue | Upon entering the dungeon:
|
Upon Completion | If player is not a Mage (F/M):
Keening Hilder: "Follow this path, and you can get to Pandemonium without the influence of the Black Nightmare. Make sure to take reliable comrades with you. When you get there, look for a woman called Summoner Kate. She'll help you. She's guarding Central Park beyond the desert of Pandemonium. I'll stay here and keep an eye on Luke until you return. I'll try to stall him if something happens." If player is an F. Mage: Keening Hilder: "Follow this path, and you can get to Pandemonium without the influence of the Black Nightmare. Make sure to take reliable comrades with you. When you get there, look for a woman called Summoner Kate. She'll help you." <Player>: "You mean Mrs. Kate?!" Keening Hilder: "That's right. Briefing | Hiram: "You're back. How did it go? You've met an Apostle. You mean, an Apostle besides Luke? ...Hm... I see."
Cohen: "Captain, this is a big deal, isn't it? Hiram: "It is. Adventurer, what did she say? She wants you to go to Pandemonium and break the seal Luke has cast..."" Dana Donatel: "Adventurer. I'm glad you came back safely." Azalea: "Adventurer, Luke--" Isabella: "Say, do you think you can destroy him?" Hiram: "Oh no, it's getting crowded in here. Let's go to Sir Jurgen. He's here on behalf of the Princess. We can talk there." |
Objectives | Relay what Hilder said to Jurgen.

Upon Completion | Nevillo Jurgen: "So there are clues in Pandemonium. Yet another Apostle has appeared and that bothers me greatly. But at this moment, our priority is Luke. We can talk about her later. I'm not sure if we can trust that Apostle called Hilder, though. Adventurer, you said she stirred up the Underworld. She can stir up Empyrean if she has a mind."
Hunter Von: "*Whine* First it was Luke, and now Hilder. It hurts me to hear people talk ill of them." Erica: "Hilder is not bad. I don't agree with everything she does, but she doesn't do things without reason." Nevillo Jurgen: "Even madmen don't do things without reason. Her and us are on different sides. We have to worry about possible ramifications for our collaboration with her." Meryl: "I agree. But everyone from Pandemonium speaks so highly of this Apostle Hilder. She has to be different from Anton. If she wants to help this adventurer, then we shouldn't stop her. We need help from anywhere we can get. The threat that is Luke is growing bigger by the day." Azalea: "Everyone, Hilder is not trustworthy. She's brought nothing but grief to Arad. She's up to no good." Hiram: "She might, but we have no other choice at this moment." Azalea: "..." Dana Donatel: "This means we're going to Pandemonium, to meet this summoner named Kate and find a way to break Luke's seal." Nevillo Jurgen: "I agree. Let's get ready."
