Edwin Jurgen is one of the many tertiary characters of Dungeon Fighter Online and the youngest child of the House Jurgen.

Born as a frail child, Edwin used his poor health as an excuse to seclude himself from the harsh realities of the world. But after catching wind of his father's scheme to overthrow the Ziben government and realizing the truth of his sister's demise, Edwin decided to take an active stance in the war.

Lore

Character Biography:

"I'm not going to take the same path as my family."

Male. Age 24.
The youngest child of Nevillo Jurgen, who has three sons and a daughter.

Born as a frail child, he was spoiled when he was young, but he gradually recovered his health and showed exceptional intelligence, earning special attention from his father.
When he realized that his father's favoritism toward him caused his sister Marianne to seethe with jealousy, Edwin used his physical frailty as an excuse to avoid getting embroiled in the succession war among his siblings.
He also secluded himself from the world outside his mansion, but he couldn't stop the gossip and rumors about him.

...
I'm too ashamed to see you, Adventurer.

Father, I'm sorry I'm such an undutiful son... *Sob*

(Post-Empyrean Civil War)

People wonder why I, a Jurgen, is still alive and in the Palace. When Her Majesty said life was already a punishment for me, she must have meant this humiliation.
But I'll continue to live and prove to others why I must stay in the Palace. That's the least I could do for Her Majesty.

(Post-Empyrean Civil War)

Maybe there was a way to stop Father, and that would have created more sacrifices.
He wouldn't have given up being who he was so long as he lived. I couldn't let him do the same thing he did to Mother and Marianne to anyone else.
But... if I realized that earlier and stopped him more quickly, would things have been different?

(Post-Empyrean Civil War)

Now that Lady Wane and her conspirators are gone, the Nobility Council is nothing but a husk of what it used to be. Since it was independently organized to represent the Nobility's voices in Court, maybe its continued existence is meaningless.
But during the war, some of its members tried to bring back Her Majesty behind the scenes. There were also some who weren't happy with the way the powerful families influenced their country.
I'll be discussing the future of the Council with the newly appointed Northpiece Commander and Her Majesty, but I promise to you that whatever happens, the Nobility Council will never be the same.

(Post-Empyrean Civil War)

Her Majesty is deeply concerned about the storm in the Sea of Storms. Sea storms usually don't affect the land, but this one is different. It's been causing mysterious rifts here and there, and its damage is growing by the day.
I've consulted Lindsey on it, but-excuse me? Ah, you didn't know.
Lindsey and I are good friends. We met when we were in Northpiece, and we've kept in touch since then. I helped her leave Northpiece during the confusion of the war, to keep the promise I made to her.
But please don't get ideas. She and I are just... friends.

Gift

Thank you, but... I don't know if I deserve such a precious gift.

I don't know how I'll repay you for all this...

Your gifts are so precious that I'm going to save and offer them to Her Majesty later. Thank you, Adventurer.

Father used to tell me about the world beyond the Castle of the Dead, about Underworld, and about... you, Adventurer. He said it's only natural that you grow stronger as you experience more of the world.
Father did love Empyrean, in his own way. He believed in order for her to grow stronger, she needed a strong leader and laws.
I love Empyrean just as much. I want her to grow stronger, too, but not in the same way Father did.
I doubt anyone will believe me right now, though.

I sold my family's mansion in Northpiece. I'm also in the process of selling everything else that belongs to us Jurgens.
Of course, it breaks my heart to lose my childhood home, but...
Without Father, Marianne, my brothers who abandoned their family name, and my relatives, Northpiece is no longer where I belong.
Don't I feel resentful? Well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't, but for now, I want to accept everything as it is, and live each day as if it were my last.
I have to do this, or... I'd be too ashamed to see Father one day.

You mean, Lindsey? The first time I met her, she was by the wall around my house in Northpiece.
I was taking a stroll late in the evening to avoid other people when I saw a woman throwing stones at my wall.
I was used to people looking askew at my family, but no one has dared throw rocks at our home before.
I would've just ignored her if the stones she threw didn't bounce back and hurt her.
Yes, that was Lindsey. Come to think of it, it's remarkable how we've become good friends after that.

Where I want to go...? I have so many things to do at the Palace, I don't know if I can leave anytime soon. But if I could take a day off, then...
I'd like to visit Zelva. Father stayed there while he looked for paths to the Castle of the Dead and Pandemonium.
I'd like to see what he saw. If he left any records or reports, I'd also like to see them.
This is something I want to do as his son, not as a member of the Nobility Council.

Gift

Adventurer, you're always so kind.

I'll cherish this. Thank you.

"An old friend met in a far country is like rain after a drought." You remind me of this proverb. I hope you don't mind me thinking of us as friends.

Are you worried about me?
If you're as busy as Her Majesty said you were, I don't want you to waste your time on me.
If you're worried that I'm coping well with the loss of my family, don't be. I'm not going to let grief consume me or give up on myself.
Living may be a punishment, but I'm not going to live the rest of my life feeling guilty. It may take a while for me to feel normal again, but it will happen eventually. Thank you for being so considerate of me, but please, don't worry about me.
And just for clarity, many members of the Palace look forward to seeing you. Please feel free to visit as often as you like.

This fan? It was from Father. He also gave them to his other children, my two older brothers, and Marianne.
The others gave theirs to someone they loved. Marianne, known for her beautiful handwriting, wrote a poem on her fan and gave it to the man who later became her husband. My brothers, who loved painting, painted flowers and butterflies on theirs and gave them to their teachers.
I also was going to give mine to someone I liked, if I found someone like that later, but... now that I can never meet or spend time with my family, this fan has become my most precious treasure.
And I'm sure anyone that I fall in love with wouldn't accept the fan, even if I offered it to her. She'd know how much I cherish the memories behind it.

Edwin JurgenIcon.png Edwin Adventurer, how familiar are you with magic?

I'm sure you've heard of Hugh Fitzlary, the member of Empyrean's delegation to Arad who went missing and has miraculously returned.
After his return, Hugh submitted a detailed report of his stay in Arad to Her Majesty as per her order, and...
It's filled with nothing but information about magic. For example, the names of magic books used by the Principality's Mage Guild to teach their young mages and his in-depth analysis of the differences between the dark elves' magic and the human principality's.
As someone who has no background in magic, I can't even comprehend his report. I don't know if Her Majesty can, either. Adventurer, could you help me? His report only consists of a few hundred pages. I wouldn't need too much of your time.
Ah, you're busy. I'm sorry. I should have checked your schedule first. Then, Adventurer, when do you think you can spare some time for me?
File:AdventurerIcon.png Adventurer ...
Edwin JurgenIcon.png Edwin Ah, I can wait as long as you want. So, when?
File:AdventurerIcon.png Adventurer ...

I've talked to the nobles remaining in the Palace. I've also meet some people in Ghent, Etten, and Wespeace. These two groups have such different stands on things that they might as well live in two different countries.
I've realized how ignorant I am of reality. I asked Her Majesty to let me travel Empyrean and experience how the people live.
She approved and said she also learned a lot while we were in Etten and Wespeace during the war. So, I'll be gone from the Palace pretty often for a while.
I'm telling you this, just so you wouldn't come to the Palace to see me when I'm not here. Hah hah.
You'll see. Once I'm done looking around Empyrean, I'll move on to Arad. I've only met our diplomatic targets through files, and that's not the best way to measure their strengths.
Don't worry. I'm not going to put myself in danger until I do my bit for my country. I'll be back in one piece.
