Muramasa originates from Sengo Muramasa, a famous swordsmith during the 16th century of Japan, and it's flavor text is based on folklore on how those blades he made were cursed with demonic powers due to his violently ill-tempered nature, causing the wielder to become bloodthirsty and commit murder.
The sword's Korean name written in Hanja is 妖刀 : 무라마사; 妖刀 meaning "bewitched/cursed katana" and 무라마사 being the phonetic reading of the name "Muramasa."
