Lore

Lore Excerpt:
The girl's name was Shirley. Her famished parents sold her off to a fanatic group for a batch of bread.

The children who were gathered in this way were sacrificed to the ancient devil god, but Shirley was chosen by the devil god and was baptized with darkness.

Shirley was enwrapped in a terrible rage. She vowed vengeance and waited for the day to come.

But was the choice of the devil god truly right? As years passed, the resolution of the young Shirley was nowhere to be found within her.

In the blood of many children offered as sacrifices, Shirley felt she was getting closer to the devil god.

But this is not enough. It is impossible to become one with the devil god with only this amount.

One day when she was suffering from sadness, the oracle of the devil god came to her.

Ah, yes, with the power of Kashipa, I will be able to give more blood!”

Without hesitation, Shirley headed to Harlem to join Kashipa.

After changing her name to Dieuleve, the sacred name given by the devil god.

History

During her past life, Dieuleve was born under the name Shirley and lived in poverty with her parents, until they sold her to a fanatic group in exchange for bread. She was going to be sacrificed to an ancient devil god called Verato only to be chosen by him and would be baptized as she waited for the day to vow vengeance on her parents.

As she grew older, Shirley would begin sacrificing children and offered their blood to her god so she could become one with him, but this wasn't enough to appease him. She would later head to Harlem joining the Kashipa's ranks without hesitation now going under her new name given by the devil god, Dieuleve.

As the Adventurer heads into Total Eclipse from Border Town battling Kashipa merchants and rescuing slaves, they first hear about Dieuleve when spoken to by an elder individual mentioning that she doesn't visit the market very often, but dozens of slaves die every time she does and is powerful as a goddess. Cobb, one of those slaves that they came across earlier in their journey said that he was going to be sacrificed by Dieuleve who later overhears her voice worshiping her god.

When confronted, Dieuleve is ordered by Verato to kill the Adventurer, but loses to them. A Shadowmancer and Low-ranking Summoner appear to see if she is alright, except that she kills those two to fuel her powers despite finding their sacrifices nasty. Frustrated by the lack of help she's receiving from the demon god, Dieuleve decides to prepare another bloody ritual for him by sacrificing more slaves in the process. She battles the adventurer a second time now morphing into her Pugnator form only to be defeated again, putting an end to the bloodthirsty fanatic's actions.

Trivia

  • Dieuleve's name happens to be a mistranslated reference to the French Catholic motto, Deus vult meaning "God wills it".
  • Her Zealous moniker is another way to describe a fanatic which ties into her worship towards Verato.
