does mp relate to int at all? like does extra int increase the amount of mp? -- Ladywinter

Damage calculations

How exactly is damage determined in the game? I understand there are the various stats, but there seems to be some kind of hidden stat for balance.

Example: I went into the arena and fought a computer opponent standing still. I removed all equips, including weapon, and then compared damage for the first melee attack with the stick for mage. The damage differed in slight amounts, staying within a certain range. That range is obviously the damage balance, determining through probability how likely you are to attack at your max damage. So assuming that a hidden stat DOES exist we need to answer a few questions:

  1. Are there separate balance stats for melee and magic?
  2. If there are separate stats, are the stats altered by strength and intelligence?
  3. If there aren't separate stats, what exactly determines how much balance you have?
    1. Is the balance stat simply a fixed number that cant be increased or decreased through any means?
      1. If so, what is the number?
  4. What are the limits for the stat?
    1. Can your balance only go to a certain number or can you get 100% balance assuming it can be increased through stats?
    2. Obviously level 1 characters don't start with 0% balance; what is the minimum for balance?
  5. Is balance different when using different types of weapons?
    1. Will a staff give higher magical balance than a spear? Will a spear give higher melee balance than a staff?
  6. What is minimum damage?
    1. We only have information about what your Physical Attack against an opponent with 0 defense is, which I'm assuming is considered to be maximum damaage. Is the minimum damage 0, or is it a number that is a proportion of the Physical/Magical Attack stat?

Answers would be appreciated if you have any. ~ Illara 00:55, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

In-Game Tool Tips

Looking at the tool tip for Strength in-game it say, "Strength of [status effects] increases. Should it be included that strength acts in the same way as intelligence with status effects? Also do Hit Recovery and Immobility need to added as well? -- BlakDoxa 15:46, 26 July 2011 (PDT)

This page is very long

There's a lot of information on this page... I think it needs to be split up. 7-13 (shown on the ToC) should either have their own pages, be removed or consolidated on pages with similar, relevant information. This page should only reflect the items shown in the Status tab in-game. Anyone else agree, somewhat, kinda? - Blakdoxaduo (talk) 12:23, 13 May 2015 (PDT)

I do agree. I would find candidates for different pages first and move them one at a time. --FMageIcon.png Everspace (talk) 13:05, 13 May 2015 (PDT)
Took care of status effects. Putting the rest of this page in order is going to take some time... Not sure if some of the values have remained the same or changed. I think Status#Physical Attack Attribute should be moved to the Weapons page. - Blakdoxaduo (talk) 22:24, 15 May 2015 (PDT)

Independent Attack Power/Absolute Damage

"Damage dealt is affected by either INT or STR depending on the damage type of the skill in question." This needs to be clarified. By simply unequipping your armor and checking your status shows no change in the IAP value. I'd go as far to say that neither strength nor intelligence have any effect on IAP/absolute damage. The type of damage inflicted will be determined by the skill itself. I've tested this on my berserker just to be sure and created a Berserker Spreadsheet to show.
I also believe that IAP/absolute damage is some type of true/typeless damage (i.e. not affected by defense reductions, like status damage) and HP is the only defense against it. My only reason for this is that I looked at the value difference between PvE and PvP. Compared to PvE, you deal considerably less absolute damage even though your base attack is scaled higher in PvP (along with every other stat). I didn't put the PvP values in because there were 3 difference versions: in-town, in the PvP lobby and in the PvP room. This would just make things confusing.
To sum up everything STR/INT don't affect IAP/absolute damage at all and IAP/Absolute damage is typeless/true damage. - Blakdoxaduo (talk) 10:53, 19 August 2015 (PDT)

No. Look at the numbers from hitting the reinforcement machine in the training arena (it has 0 defences), and the ones from a run. Smack the machine after applying a buff that boosts strength, or chugging a potion. These numbers are all totally different. The number shown on the tooltip is just the internal ratio multiplied by the base attack on your status page. Play a Witch, and see the different in damage on something like Florae Collider after you use Ancient Library or Ancient Memory. --FMageIcon.png Everspace (talk) 13:13, 19 August 2015 (PDT)
Stats are confusing... I tested it out on my berserker again with and without the derrange buff and you're right about str increasing the damage. What I don't get is how much str/int plays into damage calculation, I think that's where I'm getting lost. But that's far out of my field of expertise, unfortunately... - Blakdoxaduo (talk) 17:39, 19 August 2015 (PDT)
Strength increases all physical damage according to the formula: damage * ((str/250)+1). So having 750 strength increases your damage by 4 times. This works the same way for intelligence. Independent attack affects both magic and physical damage skills and is affected by either int or strength respecively. You should check out the damage formula threads on nexus here and here--Lokd (talk) 22:00, 19 August 2015 (PDT)

Thanks! That cleared up an misunderstandings I had. Now this is sort of an off-topic subject but do you think the wiki could use a damage calculation page? - Blakdoxaduo (talk) 05:12, 20 August 2015 (PDT)

It's own page? I'm not sure about that. It should be placed somewhere where it makes sense. --FMageIcon.png Everspace (talk) 03:21, 21 August 2015 (PDT)
