Lore

Lore Excerpt:

Sighted Area: Near a coastal city in the Metro Center area Shape: A half-man, half-quadruped Beast that's covered with scaly skin except for its chest and stomach. It usually stays on the ground, but its scales and tail enable it to be active underwater. It's been wearing Echon-style accessories since it was first discovered.

Some people sacrifice others for their sea god, to convince themselves that they're being protected by the deity. Traces of such sacrificial rituals can still be found in the cities along the coasts of Pandemonium. And this Beast named Hiero is what their fear would look like if it became reality.

"Hiero was first discovered at a seaside village in the Metro Center area. It's capable of language, but it only speaks to make itself understood; it doesn't speak it to communicate with others. It's also extremely warlike. While the other Beasts do not interfere with each other, Hiero picks fights with them. It seems this Beast enjoys fighting for the fun of it, as well as for obtaining food for survival. Considering its predilection for violence and the fact that it's wearing Echon-style accessories, it's suspected that Hiero came from the Echon Planet. How it arrived in Pandemonium is anyone's guess. What's amazing about this Beast is that, even though Hiero does not radiate mana, it freely commands the power of water, one of the four elements of nature. It's not known if Hiero was born with this ability or has acquired it when it came to Pandemonium. What's clear, however, is that this Beast grows stronger when it's near water.

Move Set

  • Rip! Tear! Split!: Hiero will deliver a pretty slow and well-telegraphed slash in front of him. It's avoidable at best if you're not in close range, but it deals heavy damage on contact.
  • Water Ball: Hiero will summon water balls and launches them out directly at Player 1. The move itself is very similar to Luke's Energy Ball Throw, except that the traces from Hiero's dissapear much faster.
  • Water Pillars: Hiero slams the ground with his fists, creating water pillars that targets Players 1 & 2 with red circles which can launch them in the air if not dodged.
  • Water Blast: Hiero gathers up water energy inside of him and sends it out as a wave in front of him that can potentially kill anyone who's in the attack's range.
  • Jump Break: Hiero will jump in a telegraphed spot that has a big enough delay to safely dodge it, but the move itself can deal heavy to lethal damage if players get stomped on.

Berserk

  • Throughout the fight, Hiero's berserk gauge will fill up and after 20 seconds have passed, he'll roar at the party, pushes them back and begans to use three different attacks that are not random compared to Anne's which are:
    • Take my Energy!: Similar to Jump Break, Hiero attempts to and targets the last player who attacked him and attempts to stomp on them three times.
    • Outta the way!: Hiero will jump to the middle of the room and cast a horizontal water stream in the direction he’s facing as well as random horizontal / diagonal water streams on every party member after every ground slam he does, then he does it one more time. After that he dashes into the direction he was facing and hits the wall, making him groggy for a free damage phase.
    • Spiral Dive: Hiero will jump on one of the parts of the screen that is located near the wall and dash in the direction he jumped whether it'll be top, middle or bottom. After that, he quickly follows it by dashing in the opposite direction on the other two parts of the screen. Because of this, there are six possible scenarios, but you need to remember only three. He'll also hit the wall into a groggy state.

Strategy

  • Hiero attacks hit really hard. But unlike Anne, he is very unpredictable and chaotic when it comes down to his patterns.
  • Hitting Hiero during his appearance when he attacks Anne will cause to drop his defenses before leaving, making him groggy on the ground for a certain amount of time and giving party members a free chance at damaging him for only 15% of his HP so don't waste your strongest skills and save them when he gets up.
  • For Outta the way!, the most well known pattern to prevent a party wipe is the "3 - 6 - 9 o’clock" as it requires coordination and enough movement speed to execute it:
    • Party members run to 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock placement on the map to activate Hiero’s first water streams. When you can see that Hiero is casting first those water streams through telegraphed red circles, all party members gather at the bottom of the screen (6 o’clock) to activate Hiero’s second water streams. From there on you can run either to 5 o’clock or 7 o’clock to avoid the second water streams.
